Nicram
Just would like to inform that 1.16 BIOS version is out & the links are on the top :)
Guest Guest
Thank you for the new version, but it says something about the autentification is damaged or isn't valid, could you explain what it means? Is corrupted the file or can i install it like always?
Tomcheck
On The compal download page, there is also the download for 1.16. but the file is password protected. is it possible that this bios is beta or something?

Nicram
If someone got authentication problem, please try to download file again because it may be broken. Or maybe ur unrar is to old (always try to use newest winrar).
Tomcheck
this link does definitely work: http://nicram.sytes.net/compal116.rar I made the update with this file. great thanks to you nicram for already binding the files into a bootdisk. I had to do this myself when updating to 1.13, and wasted a lot of time till i had a working iso. another question. If you look at the bios boot options, it seems like booting from a bootable usb stick should be possible. but when i tried a stick which boots up at my friends pc, it did't work for my laptop. have you ever tried booting from usb with you fl90? Nicram
Well i must say i never try to boot up with usb stick. I got external HDD (usb connection) & it work fine (i;ve got Linux Mint on it). UPDATE: I noticed something. After upgrade to 1.16 when i put my Kingston travelerMini into usb it is working fine, but when i put it into PowerUSB (on the left) then it says "unknown device detected". Tomcheck
I just created a thread explaining how to create a bootable usb stick. once created, you can use it for flashing and other purpose where you need to boot up dos. this will make burning a new cd for every new bios update unnecessary. furthermore the flashing tool now can create a bakup of the bios. http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....showtopic=17150 Edited January 27, 2008 by Tomcheck
Nicram
I was thinking about USB stick but, i remember some problems with other plugin slots like rs232 or lpt many years ago, so i prefer booting from some device that is made to be disk device :) but You are right that it give some more options to the user, when You use usb stick. Just for me it's not stable enough to use it with bios upgrade. Edited November 28, 2008 by Nicram
Guest H
So using this process as shown in the first post all I need to do is burn the image to CD then boot the laptop straight from CD Drive? This will be my first ever time updating a BIOS, and I really don't want to mess things up. Thanks for the help!!
Guest Nicram
burn the image to CD then boot the laptop straight from CD Drive? Extactly :)
Guest roger
NOOB QUESTION: So do we install the OS first? and then update bios? or can we just insert the cd and install the bios update first. I have the Compal FL92 so should it be safe to install 1.16 regardless of the current bios already installed? Thanks!
Guest Nicram
The OS on the laptop is not important. you may update BIOS with or without OS on the laptop (even without HDD). But i never try this with FL92 model, so i do not know if it works fine.
Guest Ob1
another question. If you look at the bios boot options, it seems like booting from a bootable usb stick should be possible. but when i tried a stick which boots up at my friends pc, it did't work for my laptop.have you ever tried booting from usb with you fl90? Just press F12 at the boot screen, then you'll get a boot menu to choose between hard disk, cd/dvd or usb. I often use it to launch bactrack from a usb key, it works very well :)
Tomcheck
if you would have read the wohle thread you probably knew that i even wrote a tutorial how to create such a boot stick. so, i already solved this problem ;-)
Guest Guest
I think there is a new version (4-8-08) of the BIOS in the compal website, but I don't know how to install it without the CD
Tomcheck
create a usb boot stick with the instructions of my turorial : http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....showtopic=17150 copy the bios files onto the stick and boot up with it. the new Bios should be 1.18 but there is nothing new but more compatibilities with new processors. So if you already have 1.16 installed, there is no need to update.
