There are repositories that have these drivers. You just need to use your package manager to get them (I think its Synaptic under ubuntu).

If you prefer the terminal (you should :) ) you could open a terminal and use apt-get. Ex. sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx . Then Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to restart X.

Personally, my preference is to find the Linux drivers at www.nvidia.com and then install them in a non-X environment. Need be, I can explain this method. I am currently using the 169.04's in Linux.
