Quadro FX3700 in a HP 8710w?

I just looked at the link you posted with the picture of your heatsink and realized you already removed the panel I was talking about, so nevermind all that.

Maybe you do have to actually remove the whole thing to get to the part number, I just don't remember where exactly it was on mine. Did you try pulling up the silver cable and peeking under?

Now I disassemble notebook and take many photos in 7MP cam, I use flashlight and watch under all places at all angles - there is only this part number (on cpu) and another number "AT00X000300 KAUR 0A 083F" on one of heatsink pipe. There is no way I will disassemble it too (but I dont have arctic silver 5 or smth like this)...

Crap :)

I've found a PDF from HP with some partnumbers. SIGAN, you're right. 468593-001 is the partnumber of the CPU heatsink.

Yes I'm right :-) but I'm right that there is no partnumber for GPU heatsink. I disassemble it all! And takes photos :) after preparing for web I will post them. Interesting thing I found - on GPU there is Assy Num and Partnum - and they differs...

All numbers and spacing are on photos.

I take look at HP Parts Store for my KE190EA:

450593-001 - CPU HEATSINK PENRYN

456190-001 - GPU1 HP Assembly# 3600M

468592-001 - GPU2 HP Spare# 3600M

450594-001 - GPU HEATSINK W/FAN

I can't believe but 450594 is the same number!!! Maybe difference not in PartNumbers but in ProductNumbers (KE190EA)???

By the way - price in HP Parts Store is neerby price in other online shops (where I found this p/number).

The only way is to use my numbers???

I'll give it a try and order 468593-001. Why? Just because 468592-001 is the FX 3600M. I think that they belong to eachother.

And could someone explain me this? It's a screenshot from a PDF which came from HP.

In the schema above you have mismatch in numbers 7 and 8. Take a look - 7 is for CPU, 8 - for GPU. But in table 7 - is HEATSINK FOR GPU, 8 - FOR CPU.

This is a page of HP Spare Parts

You can write in the model number field KE190EA.

Then select KE190EA.

Then choose in "by keyword" item "Heat Sink".

All numbers and some description will be here.

But if you select another model number (with Quadro 1600M) - the same numbers appears.

Now I think maybe they modified cooling system - and now you can buy only this modified solution?

Well I just found someone selling the dual pipe heatsink (Identical to the 3600m sink)on Ebay.

We will soon see how much of a diffence in cooling it makes.

Thanks for taking apart your laptop and for all your help. Hopefully this solves it.

Thanks all of you

Also, I can't tell for sure, but it looks like it has a part number sticker on it.

If it does mystery solved....

Hmmmmmm........ Well it is a 1600m card with the heatsink that came on the 3600m. So either it is true that HP has just revised the heatsink to have only the dual pipe sink, and somehow it works on both the 1600 and 3600 or it is the incorrect sink for that card. once I get my dual pipe card I will check to see how it fits on the 1600m. it seems to me that it should not fit correctly but I could very well be wrong.

and here is the ebay link to the one I found http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230368650248&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I should have it very soon so hopefully all will be answered then....

On the picture that shows the underside of the HS, you can see that the cooling pad configuration is in fact for the 1600M. It has 4 cooling pads for the memory chips, plus a few more for the chips on the upper edge of the card.

Bottom of HS

If that HS was for the 3600/3700 shouldn't there be 8 cooling pads for the memory chips?

It's correct but why does it has two heatpipes instead of one heatpipe?

As someone else suggested, it could be a redesigned HS, meant to be used with both the 1600M and 3600M.

When used with the 3600M, they probably just change the cooling pad configuration. In other words, they just add more pads to cover the additional memory chips found in the 3600/3700.

Wow, this guy just sold a 1600M, as a "3600M".

1600M sold as a 3600M

The buyer is not going to be very happy when he installs it.

Unless, there is a version of the 3600M that looks exactly like a 1600M.

Yeah,

The guy definitely sells FX1600m as FX3600m...

I sent him an email a few days ago to tell him that there was no way a G84 core (same as 8700m GT) could give a FX3600 (G92 core)...

But he did not seem to care much.

Did anyone try to install the upgraded fan, recommended by the HP tech, as a way of bringing temperatures down?

Ebay scams (1600m as 3600m) seem more prevalent recently. Someone on ebay has been selling HP HDX Dragons with 2.1 ghz core duos, as 4.2 ghz machines! Talk about new math!

Some day ago I bought Quadro 3700M (in replace for my 3600M) on ebay.

I will test it and I already have some suggestions how to midify dual pipe heatsink: I saw it has barier between GPU sink and fan

(imho the main purpose is to give more air to CPU sink).

When I extreme burn it - air get out of GPU sink bot not out all of it (basicly 50% of it get air - and 50% - not)

This barier could be shorted, so I think additional 10% will get it much colder (will be perfect if to 74 C).

I draw schema in Paint (red - is the place to be modified).

  • 2 weeks later...

Just curious if any progress has been made since the last post. The thread has been rather quiet.

I still think that a fan upgrade might make a difference in cooling in addition to the heatsink and heatsink modification recently suggested.

All the best to all the MXMers out there!

I received my Quadro 3700M. :)

But there is a problem - it runs at 500/1250/800 always (must be 550/1375/800 and only when heavily loaded). PowerMizer settings in registry all enabled.

It says I have only 256MB video RAM (but 256bit). It is very bad... :-(

Drivers don't wont to be installed from nvidia - so I try with modded info from laptopvideo2go.com. They installed.

Chip ID is G92-985-A2, 10DE-061E-30C3103C-A2 (module brand is HP, so all should be fine).

RivaTuner, GPUZ says that it has 128SP, 256bit bus and 256VRAM.

Currently with no load (but 500/1250/800) it has temperature of 75C and my cooler work very slowly (so I think this is not normal).

I work with 100% battery and 135W adaptor.

When I look at 8730W it said that 150W adapter should be used if Extreme processor or 3700M video card. Also I have penryn wich max TDP is bigger then Merom.

In package with my notebook i always have 180W adaptor - and I will try it.

FurMark heat my 3700M with not modified heatsink to 95C and cooler don't won't to spin up. (when 3600M it spins up at 74C to premax, at 90C - to max).

And when it get 100C also it wan't blow!!!!!

So I think we also have really big problem... What is controlling cooler? Why PowerMizer don't work? Why cooler is not working properly?

And question to smth who has installed 3700M - what VRAM it has in Vista? (for me in ubuntu 64, XP32, Seven64 was all the same)...

Can anyone connect with HP Support - to ask them to support powermizer 8 + MAX 75W TDP for MXM (we will use higher power supply).

Our 1600M, 3600M uses powermizer 7 and 70W TDP.

So I think something changed - and our bios do not support it - so cooler is not knowing when to spin up, also because of this video card can't fall back to lower states.

Today I will check it with 180W power supply - if memory will not be recognized as 1GB - I will replace it with 3600M.

In FurMark it shows 11FPS in extreme burning (with 3600M was 7), in benchmark it show 34-42 FPS (was 18-31) with postprocessing enabled.

So it pretty faster (>1.5x with 10% lower clocks and 256MB VRAM) then 3600M!!! I really want it to work!!!

I'm a programmer and I know|used assembler, but I never work with BIOS and so on...

May be anyone knows where to find info??? Please help!

If have tools, docs (about BIOS, SMBIOS, PowerMizer 7 and 8), bios from 8710W and 8730W (I can get it from HP site) I can modd bios by myself to support powermizer 8.

But in really if HP specialists do it (they can do it much faster and better).
