Interesting - couldn't find this one on the net up to now.8.15.10.2653 WHQL is available on Windows Update now, but it doesn't include the HD Audio driver.
...
Update: These drivers can be downloaded from Microsoft Update Catalog using this link: http://catalog.updat...?q=8.15.10.2653.
(Open link in Internet Explorer, as it doesn't work in Firefox or other non-MS browsers).
Update: Version 8.15.10.2656 is now available at Intel's download center.

I am terribly sorry if this is not the right place to post, but I am new here and terribly confused. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with an Intel GMA HD card. It seems that HP writes their own updated drivers and my laptop won't accept the ones written by Intel from their downloadcenter, but HP has neglected to release an official updated driver for my specific laptop/card since 2009, when the laptop was made. I have found my way here in hopes that I can find a modded driver, and posted in this thread because it is an Intel card.
Anyway, I was hoping someone here could help me. Are these intel files relevant to my situation? I tried downloading the files from one of the links in post #65, but I'm not sure what to do with the files I downloaded/if they will even work.
Am I in the right place? Can anyone help me at all?
Thank you so much,
Derek

Can you check the exact device Id (using the device manager) of your Intel graphics card?
If it's one of these:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042
you need to use the drivers from post 54, note those from post 65.
And yes, if you currently have vendor-specific GMA drivers installed, you can not simply install those from Intel.
Instead, install the Intel drivers this way:
1) Download the correct drivers package
2) Extract contents from the .zip or .exe-File (using e.g. WinRar, WinZip or 7zip).
3) Bring up Windows Device Manager, right-click your Intel graphics adaptor, select Update drivers...
4) Select "Manual method" and browse to the directory where you've extracted the drivers
5) After driver update is complete, reboot your laptop.
Best regards,
Andi

Andi,
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me, I really appreciate it. The VEN and DEV numbers you suggested were indeed the correct ones. Going through your steps, I've prepared the driver files and am ready for the manual install, but when I select this option the device manager tells me that the driver software is already up to date. I already uninstalled the driver from my list of programs in the control panel but this keeps coming up, so here is what I am thinking as the next step:
http://imgur.com/HSLQf
Should I go through with that, will that fix the problem and let me manually install? If so, should the box remain unchecked? I am afraid of making an irreparable mistake. Again, I apologize for coming in here as I seriously do not know anything about this field, but I greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Derek

you're not alone when I tried the Intel HD graphics driver 8.15.10.2656 on some of the computers that I have.
That driver installed and worked on my Dell Inspiron 620 desktop computer but refused to install under my brother's Sony VAIO VPCEB44FX laptop.
the Dell desktop PC had hardware device ID no. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0102&SUBSYS_04ED1028 but the Sony VAIO laptop had device ID no. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&SUBSYS_9071104D (those Intel HD Graphics drivers from the Sony support site are outdated)
I usually un-install current Intel HD Graphics driver through the Programs & Features control panel app rather than through Device Manager, which should remove the driver and some other Intel software properly (otherwise, if you want to remove the Intel HD Graphics driver from Device Manager, select Uninstall BUT check the checkbox that says "Delete the driver software for this device.") Note that when you remove the Intel video driver, you MUST reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
Note that the drivers mentioned in post 54 are ZIP packages. I go for the straight EXE files directly from the Intel download site:
(Win7Vista_64_152254.exe) for Vista/Win7 x64
(Win7Vista_152254.exe) for Vista/Win7 x86
just run any one of these EXE files to perform an automatic installation of the Intel HD Graphics drivers and restart the computer for the new driver to take effect. I just don't like installing a new Intel driver on top of an old one (aka. by using Andy's "Update Driver" procedure) for some reason; I remove the old one from Programs and Features, reboot and then install the new one by running the bundled setup.exe file or running the EXE package. That ensures that I get to use the new Intel HD graphics driver.
In short credohut, the latest Intel driver you should have is 8.15.10.2622, which is the one my brother's Sony VAIO laptop is using. so far, only my Dell Inspiron 620 desktop PC can use Intel driver 8.15.10.2656. I may try these drivers on my aunt's Dell Inspiron 580 machine when I get the chance later on.

I've done a recent search of the Intel HD Graphics drivers yesterday on the Intel web site and the v8.15.10.2656 drivers are officially available from the Intel download site (released 2/22/2012).
Vista/Win7 driver v15.26.5.64.2656 x64bit
Vista/Win7 driver v15.26.5.2656 x32bit
Those drivers certainly didn't work on my aunt's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop machine as its Intel HD Graphics hardware had
the following hardware device id number:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042&SUBSYS_04381028&REV_18
looks like it's back to using Intel driver build 2622 for that dell 580 machine.
my dell inspiron 620 computer can handle the newer Intel drivers (such as 2656), for now. I'll skip build 2669 and wait for newer builds to be produced.

Thanks for the hint - I've updated my post accordingly.I've done a recent search of the Intel HD Graphics drivers yesterday on the Intel web site and the v8.15.10.2656 drivers are officially available from the Intel download site (released 2/22/2012).
...
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042 - That's a 1st generation Core ix processor ("Arrandale"). They are not supported by 2653, 2656 or 2669 driver builds. Those drivers certainly didn't work on my aunt's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop machine as its Intel HD Graphics hardware had
the following hardware device id number:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0042&SUBSYS_04381028&REV_18
Currently 8.15.10.2622 is the newest release supporting these processors.

Andi

Thanks erp-ster7n for the reply. Unfortunately I have been unable to get any of the .exe files to install. After opening them and preparing them an error message appears saying that they are not fit for my device and to find an update from the manufacturer (the latest of which was released in 2009).
I tried downloading the one that Andi directed me to and using the manual method to install it, but every time it still says that the latest update is already installed and I can't go any further. Even when I uninstall using this method:
http://imgur.com/HSLQf
I was unable to install the driver. If I checked the box and selected OK and then restarted, the laptop would return in what seemed like a lower resolution (everything was larger) and I was unable to install any kind of driver update at all - there was nothing to update because there was nothing. If i left the box UNchecked and hit OK the same thing would happen upon restart (a lower resolution, or whatever) but I was able to attempt to "update driver." This still proved fruitless however, as it still told me that the most updated driver was already installed.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you so much,
Derek

Try the following:...
I tried downloading the one that Andi directed me to and using the manual method to install it, but every time it still says that the latest update is already installed and I can't go any further.
...
1) Download the driver (.zip File from Post 54) and extract it to a folder on your hard disk
2) Bring up Windows Device Manager, right-click your Intel graphics adaptor, select Update drivers...
3) Select manual method
4) In the "Update device drivers" dialog that appears, choose the Option "Select from a list of device drivers on this computer":

5) In the next dialog, uncheck "Show compatible hardware" and click on "Have disk..." button:

6) In the next dialog click on "Browse..." button, and browse to the directory where you have extracted the driver. Browse to sub-directory Graphics, and select the .inf-File (igdlh64.inf for 64-Bit or igdlh.inf for 32-Bit). Click on "Open".:

7) Back in the "Installation from disk" dialog (where now your selected path appears), click OK:

8) In the next dialog select the correct hardware (in your case it should be the first "Intel® HD Graphics" entry) and click "Next".
9) Ignore any warnings about "possible incompatible hardware" and let the driver installation finish.
10) Reboot your machine.
Best regards,
Andi
