Stupid noob here giving up on finding things myself so, What would be a suitable gaming driver for my computer that wouldn't kill a dual monitor desktop setting?

I have an Inspiron 9300 with the GeForce Go 6800 with all the "good" default stuff...

You should try out, Dox's 182.05 driver, best performance under directx 9 u'll love it!

That seems to work out quite well, thanks, but should I download some form of PhysX? The installer seemed to say something about not having it...

nope you don't have to install PhysX, there are only a few games who are using PhysX and L4D2 is not one of them...
