Hey all -
I've been using drivers off this site for quite some time, and have very much appreciated the work done by the mods. However, recently I've encountered a strange problem.
My main gaming laptop is an Everex XT5000T that is still going strong, and I recently upgraded it to Windows 7 x86, which went swimmingly. However, almost *any* driver version other than the recommended 179.67 results in a BSOD. Below is a list of what I have tried:
179.67 - Runs stable, some problems with widescreen scaling recognition in games
185.85 DOX - Runs mostly stable, very hot and low performance in games compared to 179.67, but supports widescreen scaling
18x.xx - Used a variety of this series all released November 2009 or later, most very recently. Some install but result in a BSOD, some install and have a strange brightness bug that will not let me turn it up past about halfway-bright.
19x.xx - Used all the recent iterations, every single one results in a BSOD on boot, no exceptions
19x.xx DOX - Used all 3(I think?) of his recent releases and all three resulted in a BSOD on boot
Normally I would just leave well-enough alone and stick with 179.67, which has been stable and performing well; however, I really want proper widescreen scaling in my games. Is there any way to tweak that in the driver somehow? As-is, it installs and recognizes my max resolution properly @ 1440x900, but in windows and in games it will only scale at 4x3 resolutions, not 16x10 resolutions. In Dox's 185.85 release, I could scale in-game resolutions at 16x10.
For example: In Borderlands, with 179.67, I can either play at 1440x900 (horrible framerates lol) or scale down to 1152x720, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480. With Dox's 185.85, it could scale to such resolutions as 960x600, which would maintain aspect ratio and gave a great framerate/appearance.
I can live with a smushed aspect ratio, but I would love to fix it. Is there any way to go about this? Has anyone found a driver for the Geforce Go 7600/Win7x86 that works better than the 179.67 beta?
I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks for your time.
