I d/l-ed the driver today, and both files are there, without me renaming anything:
nvidia-smi.1.pd
nvidia-smi.1.pd_

Installed last night, after removing all previous drivers, and just to optimize my driver cache, and remove un-referenced cached drivers, i ran Microsoft's "MsiZap" commandline too with the !G option.
Installed fine with nVidia's INF, and getting great FPS and smoothness in Skyrim still. Getting more smoothness in every game, actually. EVGA GTX 460 FTW.
This driver doesn't come with the FXAA shader built in, but that's fine if it means it's not going to be so crash happy, and it's been totally stable so far. Plus there's a growing number of "FXXA injector" apps out there, that add FXAA to most games.

Registering to say thanks. The driver gives me better performance for skyrim, batman arkham city and assassin's revelations.

Sorry if this may be old news or not germane to this thread, but the 295.51 drivers specifically for laptops are available directly from Nvidia for download:
http://www.nvidia.co...eta-driver.html
Driver installation of the updated desktop version from this site + .inf failed for me as well. With the drivers from the above link, I was able to install it directly with no modifications. This was installed simultaneously in my Alienware M17x (GTX 580M) with newly-released Intel HD 15.22.54.2622 drivers for Optimus. I don't game with my laptop (GPU used for FP-intensive engineering simulation with OpenCL/CUDA) but so far everything works great.

Addendum to the above claim that everything works great... I had a major issue with Skype giving the error: "The executable is corrupted. Please re-install". After panicking to diagnose the problem, I searched online and found out that it was a widespread problem with this driver release. Solution is to force the program to run on the integrated GPU and run as Administrator. If you don't have Optimus, this is probably not the release for you.

Very strange. When I went and downloaded the driver from here with the modified INF, the installation simply Failed with no reason as to why. I had to go to nVidia's site with the link above and get those drivers to install, which worked fine. Very peculiar...

This driver has video issues so if you wanna play movies smoothly you better choose another driver. I don't know if it has anything to do with the memory leak they talk about in nvidia forum or not but I hope next version fixes it.
