My Hp Pavilion zd7000 has a Nvidia GeForce FX Go5600, not 5700 like you said it should have. Oddly, I cant find a driver update for it. Any help for this? Email me, jaktag@hotmail.com, thanks =)

The HP Pavilion ZD7000 appears to have various flavours of the 5xxx GPU in 5600, 5650 and 5700 with 64 or 128MB of RAM.

I have a pavilion with the 64MB fx5600go GPU, I would like a 128MB GPU instead, can anyone tell me if the GPU is on a swapable daughterboard or is part of the mainboard. (I'm not taking her apart unneccessarily) - as the GPU RAM is dedicated rather than "shared" with system RAM, I cannot change memory size in bios.

also, apart from the obvious lack of memory in the 64MB flavours of the 5xxx series, did any of them lack the pixel shader 2.0 tech that is required for aero?

I can't say for sure about your laptop, but most of the FX Go5xxx laptops use custom video cards. To see if yours is available in a 128MB flavor, I'd both google it and check e-bay. Searching on your laptop model should do the trick.

As far as I know, all of the FX chips only support DirectX 9.0b not 9.0c, which causes them to fail Micirosoft's "Ready for Vista" and ready for Windows 7" tests. But don't believe the tests, the FX series runs Aero just fine. The biggest problem is finding good drivers. Again, I don't know about your card, but nVidia dropped Vista (and therefore W7) support for the FX Go5200 after the 9x.xx drivers, so the most recent driver that supports Aero is 98.16. Yours may well have the same problem.

Likewise with VRAM: Although Microsoft says you need 128MB for Aero, you don't. I'm running Aero just fine on a 64MB FX Go5200.

Game perormance, of course, sucks toads.
