Thanks for the info. Might come in handy.
Btw what Laptop do you own?

And how the heck did you find that link to the zip archive. Playing chess??????

I moved that thread plus the tool itself to the Utilities section. It's one of the most interesting and unknown tools for the Toshiba Satellite 5xxx series. Thanks again iron_monkey!

Hi:

the toshiba remote control utility added to the utility section does not appear to support 52XX series machines, or at least i couldn't get it to work with mine - anyone else have any success?

Unzip the files to a folder ie. C:\Program Files\Toshiba\RemoteX
Start RemoteX.exe.
Now it's initialized (it creates an Autostart entry in the Registry HKLM/.../Run).

For proper use of RemoteX the WMPlayer (c:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe) has to be renamed to avoid the start of WMPlayer (you don't want two media players started). Reason is, that the Toshiba Button Controls app (look under the tab "Media Apps") controls the "Audio/Video Control" and "CD Audio Control" function, which is also controlled/used by RemoteX, so if you don't rename WMP it would also start automatically with WinAMP, cuz RemoteX emulates pressing of the PLAY button right beneath the blue subLCD, which would normally start the application assigned in the "Media apps" tab.

Unfortunately RemoteX is NOT being listed as Media Player in the "CD Audio Control" & "Audio/Video Control" selection box due to some weird limitation in the Toshiba Botton Controls app (maybe depends on the version of this application and newer version don't have this problem anymore) or unproper programming of RemoteX (i would love if he fixes that). I already figured that problem months ago, when i tried to add a MediaPlayer Classic entry here, but i haven't figured how. It seems that adding other applications other than WinDVD (oem), Toshiba Media Player (oem) and the WindowsMediaPlayer is somehow not possible.
The same problem applies to RemoteX. I added the same registry entries like WindowsMediaPlayer (or Toshiba Media Player) has, but no entry in the selection box of the "Media apps" tab appears. Only Windows Media Player and WinDVD are allowed :) . If somebody knows a way, then let us know.

Nevertheless after the renaming of WMP, restart (and eventually path-adjusting the RemoteX.ini file), pressing the Play button on the Remote starts WinAMP. DoubleClick on the RemoteX Icon brings up a nice overview of buttons used on the Remote.

Note that when you install the "Toshiba Media Player", it gets added to the dropdown list in the Media Apps menu. I wonder if this is a clue? I am going to try playing around with this, as I would like to have itunes for windows listed here...

when i change the name of media player so it doesn't launch, the toshiba control program (oem) still tries to find it each time I pless "play/pause". the consequence of this seems to be that windows loses the focus on the itunes window (I am using remotex in the keystroke mode with itunes). I wonder whether you have found the same problem? Also, I wonder whether there is some way to send combined keystrokes in the keystroke mode - i.e. CNTRL+F. Maybe I will email the author...

solution to issue one was to uninstall toshiba media player, then edit the registry entries for window media player in the toshiba services section such that no choices are displayed in the dropdown list for those items.

Hi,

I'm sorry but I've lost the source code of RemoteX when HDD crashed. Backup version is far too old. If I recall the code, I'll let you know in this forum thread.

I have Sat.51xx and it works fine for me. As I see you all have 52xx series laptops Has it a remote control or just SubLCD buttons?. I've tried with BIOS v1.10 and v1.20.In my small town I can't find any similar laptop to test and to find out what's the problem.

Could somebody export and show/send me this part of registry to compare: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Toshiba\Services.
This can be done by clicking Start->Run, then type regedit.exe /e c:\ToshReg.reg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Toshiba\Services and press Enter.
Then send me ToshReg.reg file which can be found in root folder of drive C.

Regards,
Gennady

HexploR, my model has a remote control and the SubLCD buttons. Using system BIOS v1.40. I will attach the requested file as soon my Laptop is back from Toshiba Support (it's currently sended in due to DVD-Writer not burning and the second HD in the StyleBAy -original Toshiba MKGAS 60GB- is producing bad blocks when used with UDMA 5, so i had to force PIO mode). They both got replaced and i wait for it arriving at my home.

Btw HERE are listed all members i know of with a TOSHIBA 5200 model. You can click on the User name and send them a PM. There might be more out there i don't know of or they haven't added their system specification :)

Like i said before let's try to write in here so everybody can see what's goin on :)

MSUStevo has a TOSHiBA Satellite 5105-S607, but i forgot if it has a remote control.
Astern also has a TOSHiBA Satellite 5105-S501

Here is the reg.
I have to add that i uninstalled the Toshiba Media Plazer some time ago.

Bz the way:
When looking at the reg file i remember that i tried to get the MailChecker thing to run, but failed. The relevant entries would be these, but there i haven"t found a TcmCfg.cpl. Also earlier this year i downloaded a lot of stuff in search for the Toshiba Mail Checker program, but haven"t found any reference in the web/google.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\Services\MailChecker]
"Path"="TcmCfg.cpl"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\Services\Manager]
"ChkmailMode"=hex:00

Also, do you know what this means:
"Remocon"=hex:01
??

Hi,

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\Services\Manager]"ChkmailMode"=hex:00

I'm not sure about this MailChecker, but it's somehow connected with this option of Toshiba Console:
Posted Image

Also, do you know what this means:
"Remocon"=hex:01

This key is 0 or 1 depending on whether Remote Control is enabled or not:
Posted Image

Do you have RemoteX listed in a combo box shown on this picture?
Posted Image
As I read in your reg file you should have 3 players listed there and the first one (Toshiba Media Player) is selected.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\Services\Audio]
"Control"=dword:00000000

If you don't have RemoteX in Toshiba Console, we can just replace Toshiba Media Player's position in Console with RemoteX. It worked even without reboot for me. Now I have RemoteX there instead of TosMedPlayer. After executing attached regfile you should have RemoteX there as shown on the picture (w/o the second RemoteX there)

Gennady

I give up!
On a fresh installed XP with slipstreamed SP2 (with no extra software, so nothing can interfere) RemoteX just DON'T show up in the dropdown box.

I need to add that i installed the following Toshiba software for proper access to some functions:
* Toshiba ACPI Common Modules v5.03.00_s140acpx.exe
* Toshiba TBIOS driver v2.5USB1
* Toshiba Utilities (HardwareSetup) v3.02.10_s141utlx.exe
* Toshiba Controls (SubLCD in Toshiba Console) v2.02.0001_s520ctlx.exe
* Toshiba Console for Windows XP.2000 v3.00.02-RC2_s520consolex.exe
* FN+F5 software (Toshiba Hotkey Utility for Display Devices v2.1.0.0_520dhkx.exe)
These are default software for 5205-s703 i currently use. I will update soon. I did this to avoid any errors and be sure that the Toshiba recommended software is installed when trying out RemoteX.
Earlier (some months ago) i also tried out other updated versions of these, but RemoteX also didn't show up in the dropdown box.

This is all. Not more. The rest is XP default. No tweaks, no nothing.

This is what it looks like now in the registry:

RemoteX.ini as shown in the attached Picture.
Registgry as shown in the post above.

This is what happens:
Windows Media Player opens up 1st. Then MediaMonkey 2nd and 3rd an error message appears that Winamp 2 cannot be found (it not installed :) ).

You should remove MediaMonkey line from INI file. 'cause when you press a button it searches for Winamp window. If the window does not exist it runs the program set in 1st line of INI file. Then searches for Winamp window again and displays error message if there is still no Winamp 2.x window.

BTW, have you tried replacing WMP or TMP with RemoteX as written in my last post?

BTW, have you tried replacing WMP or TMP with RemoteX as written in my last post?

Yes, replacing the first entry (AUDIO / 0 = TMP) with RemoteX results in that the AUDIO / 1 = WMP gets active and starts. Also if i start the MediaButtonControlPanel and look for the RemoteX entry the Registry updates itself from PlayerActive=0 to PlayerActive 1 (WMP), which must come from the MediaButtonControlButton. It seems to update the registry.

I don't want that! ###### this wicked WMP. I must get rid of it, but later.

Replacing ALL entries with RemoteX results in opening the Player defined in remotex.ini.... so no WMP! yes!!, but RemoteX still doesn't show up in the MediaButtonControls (see attached picture) instead it's greyed out...

Hopefully this is not too confusing what i explained above

Also removing MediaMonkey from the ini gets rid of the error message that WinAMP could not be found, but also naturally doesn't open MediaMonkey :)

So what i wanted to reach with RemoteX is using and controlling MediaMonkey only with both the SubLCD buttons and Remote Control. Just to make it clear agian....

Thanks for your time and helping out here :)
