TOSHiBA Virtual Sound | Sound output enhancement

I had the same problem after Windows update and couldn't figure out the reason - so you say it is about TVS? (I'm using latest version)

Anyway I uninstalled and later installed updates again and shutdown/restart seems to be OK, no delays.

Tell me the other thread and I can merge them. (will be kinda messy though) I can merge one topic into the other and vice versa, and merge/delete useless posts while I am at it.

If you guys think any of that is neccessary....

Edit: Its this thread right?

At first you said 50 posts dissapeared, but we haven't done the server switch were probably going to do soon yet, so all the post should still be here.

Toshiba Virtual Sound HD (TVS) for Windows XP

TOSHIBA Virtual Sound HD works as an audio filter using SRS TruSurround XT, SRS WOW HD and SRS Circle Surround Xtract functions provided by SRS Labs. A MUST-HAVE software to significantly boost your laptop speakers! TVS works as a global 'system sound plug-in.' It employs SRS Labs WOW XT and TruSurround XT technologies to processes any sound of sampling rate 44.100 kHz or 48.000 kHz before it is sent to your speakers. The boost effect is significant regardless of the quality of your sound card or speakers. :)

Requirements:

*Any and ONLY a Toshiba Laptop

*High Definition (HD) capable sound card

*Windows XP

Note: If you don't have HD capable sound card, please refer to this TVS thread for older version of TVS.

Note2: If you have HD capable soundcard but installation says you can't install it on your machine, read this thread.:

Note3: ich habe ein FIX angehangen, der fuer ein Deutsches XP gedacht ist.

Folgende Dateien sind enthalten:

- 2x Link fuer das StartMenu mit korrektem Pfad zu C:\Programme\Toshiba\Tvs\... (default Pfad)

- eine Einzeiler Batch (Doppelklick), um den (HKLM\Run) AutoStart-Eintrag zu korrigieren

Download (Version 1.03.07) Thanks to Alcahest

SRS WOW HD delivers an amazing virtual surround sound from various two channel contents over two speakers or headphones.

SRS TruSurround XT delivers an amazing virtual surround sound from various multi-channel content over two speakers or headphones. SRS TruSurround XT is the virtualizer that features post processing audio enhancements, creating a wider, and taller sound image field with deep rich bass from multi-channel content using SRS FOCUS and SRS TruBass technologies.

SRS Circle Surround II converts 5.1 or 6.1 channel surround sound into 2 channel signal which is recorded or broadcast using conventional technologies, then retrieves the original 5.1 or 6.1 channel signal form a surround sound system. Any multi-channel surround sound source can be recorded on an ordinary CD format, or can be broadcast through the current FM stereo broadcasting system.

SRS is selling its own WOW XT plug-in for Windows Media Player, which only works within WMP, for $10. I am pretty sure this TVS would cost more than $30! Moreover, we wouldn't have got this software for even $100 if Toshiba hadn't cooperated with SRS Labs - it is not commercially available - there is no retail version of such thing. Toshiba must have paid a lot for the licensing so enjoy! :)

Thanks to Hazart for telling us about TVS.

The latest version of TVS is Toshiba Virtual Sound for Windows XP v1, "VirtualSound v2" is actually an old version of v1 for some odd reason - both the application version and digital signature time stamp are old.

Old Versions

- TVS 1.02.00 (Download)

- TVS 1.02.01 (Download)

Sorry, Bill. At that time, I didn't realise this thread had been split and thought 50 replies had gone.

Good question. Probably if it supports 4.1 or 5.1 or 6.1? Don't have much idea. Why don't you just give it a try? If it works then you have HD capable soundcard, if not you don't.

Doesn't work on the Tecra S3 with the STAC9200 HD/Azalia chip.

It doesn't install or no icon after install? Have latest drivers from the sound card? Maybe this requires something else, not only HD soundcard - some specific soundcard maybe?

Won't install, says i dont have required hardware i think?

I have the latest drivers from toshiba, dated late last year, same drivers that were on it when new.

Might need a specific card like you said... which is a bugger..

Ok guys! I managed to install it and it now works perfectly!

I have Qosmio E10, it is not supported if you don't trick the installer.

What to do to trick: Begin to install, but don't press NEXT.

Go in c:\documents & settings\USERNAME\LocalSettings\temp

(where USERNAME is your login name)

here you will find a folder containing a file called TvsSupport.ini.

You need to edit it before you can continue installation.

Open it with notepad and locate an entry beginning by PQXXX

where XXX represent the beginning of a Toshiba notebook serial number.

For exemple, PQG30 is for Qosmio G30, PQM50 is for toshiba M50, etc..

So replace with your value. (for me, I replace PQG20 by PQE10)

Then you will see a line:

ServiceName1 = sthda

sthda is the name of the sound driver. You need to leave sthda is you use a Sigmatel sound driver.

If you use Analog Device (SoundMax) driver, then you need to put "aeaudio" (without quotes)

I don't know for other sound driver, sorry :/

That's it! Another tip, do not use the PQF20 entry to replace with your values because ServiceName3 will not work, it needs to be ServiceName1.

So now, save the TvsSupport.ini in the temp folder, and continue the installation. It should install now! Then reboot and enjoy the very latest version of TVS and Circle Surround and other enhancements!

See you,

Alcahest

sthda = SigmaTelHDAudio?

Thanks Alcahest for pointing us to this release however about anything above 1.02 needs HD capable sound card, that's why threads are splitted. Again thanks for the installation method but it was already found by Hazart, it's explained in sound card section under the topic how "How to get TVS v1.02.xx to work" but there seems to be a change in the support file and his method might not work in 1.03.xx so we should have a look at that. There is no generic part in 1.03.xx file.

Thanks again, will update the related topic and your method :)

SnOwl, as far as I know, my Qosmio E10 IS NOT compatible with HDAudio, and yet it works OK.

I think because the driver for TVS is backward compatible with non HD sound cards. (actually, i am sure, because otherwise it wouldn't work on my system :) )

Later,

Doesn't work here. Either your laptop is HD compatible or supports more than 2 channel audio which might be sufficent for TVS HD. Don't miss the hint - TruSound HD renaming of TVS after 1.02 so we concluded it needs HD capable sound card to work.

I've got a suprise for you guys =]

http://rapidshare.de/files/18248121/tvs10101.zip.html

Installs on any computer, including mine (I have a Sigmatel STAC 9750 AC97). If you have any problems, ask and I'll try to help. I made the installer extract all the files into the install directory so that you can edit the files and remake the installer (provided you have Inno Setup).

Enjoy =]

Installs on any computer, including mine (I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 with SigmaTel STAC 9750 AC97). If you have any problems, ask and I'll try to help. I made the installer extract all the files into the install directory so that you can edit the files and remake the installer (provided you have Inno Setup).

I was originally having trouble with the tray not showing up also, but after playing around with the .inf file... well, I rewrote it (sort of), and in what used to be the [clasfilt_Parameters_AddReg] (which I rewrote to [Tvs_Parameters_AddReg]), I added an entry for my sound driver as ServiceName3 (stac97). The FilterFlag came out to be 1010-1001b for my sound card (much like ®®®), and I put that into a binary-to-hexadecimal converter (you can find one here: http://www.vortex.prodigynet.co.uk/misc/ascii_conv.html), and got that the hex should be 0xA9, so I filled that in and put 0x000000A9 as the value for FilterFlag3 (which I added). After I finished editing the .inf file, I created the installer, installed, rebooted, and voila, tray icon =]

I'm not sure if TvsSupport.ini is needed, but I merged a lot of the old entries (including Generic) back into it from the older version 1.02.01's TvsSupport.ini, and packed it with the installer just in case. If you need proof of it installing on my computer, take a look at the screenshot:

http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?image=proofhd5rq.png

"Enable audio filters when the sample rate of an audio stream is less than 44.1kHz" is a kick-butt feature, and makes this version all worth it. Circle Surround doesn't sound so great, but oh well, at least we have the option to use it if we want =P

Now if this is working because my sound card is a HD sound card, sorry for wasting your time xD

Again, if you need any help, I'll try my best to provide any. Enjoy! =]

Edit: And yes, I created the installer for the TVS 1.01.01 too

Edit 2: Forgot to mention that I didn't feel like including all the languages in the installer, so if you want, just use WinPack to extract data1.cab from tvs10307.exe (from the first post), find the appropriate language, and replace it in DRIVE:\Program Files\Toshiba\Tvs I guess.

Edit 3: Circle Surround Xtract is actually starting to grow on me... and the testing continues with sound quality continues... =P

Thanks for fiddling around! Great work. If it works it should be worth a news on the frontpage!

He probably just 'debranded' TVS. Still it needs HD capable sound card to work. Thanks for the effort tho!

Eh? I don't know if my sound card (SigmaTel STAC 9750 AC97) is HD or not, but I highly doubt it, as it's at least 3 years old, and is 2-channel only. I have the same laptop as LSudlow, by the way (a Dell Inspiron 5150), so he can probably confirm that it's not HD capable... I can hear a definite improvement in sound quality for any option I choose (though the filters sometimes do cause some distortion in some songs I played). Have you bothered trying it?

Edit: I suggest you edit the first post to say that it processes any audio stream with any sample rate, as the option exists (as you'll see in my screenshot) =]

Edit 2: It seems that no one's interested in testing it out... if anyone's wary of malware being hidden inside the installer, I can always provide a copy of the files to make the installer (using Inno Setup) O.o

Yes I tried and it didn't work. Might need further changes for Yamaha AC97.
