Viper114
Man, I'm so wanting to see how much these drivers are supposed to improve Bioshock. Right now I'm using the 163.16, which runs it pretty well with the High Detail Shaders OFF (if they're on, they cause massive problems in the form of crashes). But, perhaps things could be better with these drivers. Whoever is working on the Modded INF, don't rush things on it, but I am anticipating the release whenever it comes. Guest Guest
Looking forward to the inf for these! Many thanks to whoever ends up putting it out! Am currently running Bioshock demo on a Samsung M55 (2ghz Core Duo, 7600 Go 256mb, 2gb ram) with 163.14 drivers and getting pretty good framerates at lower resolutions with all graphics maxed bar the "distortion" option. The only problem I get is stuttering. The game will pause for up to a couple of seconds every now and then, especially when entering a new area... most annoying. These drivers however are supposed to correct a "known issue" concerning stutters on nvidia cards though so hopefully these new drivers will be the answer. Hackez
I would highly appreciate if someone could put up a modified inf as soon as they get some free time. Thanks to the Original Poster! :) Edit: Is there any ETA on the upcoming INF? I don't mean to rush you guys but Bioshock release is tomorrow and I would really like to use this driver. Thanks! Just to say, I have found that enabling Triple Buffering seems to help the stuttering issues mentioned here. Still not perfect but definately better! Guest ns12123
The drivers are a MASSIVE improvement. The stuttering is completely gone and the framerate is excellent. Just can't get them to work with my monitory; crappy laptop screen will have to do.
Guest Guest
When I try to use the nVidia control panel with this driver, it "has performed an illegal operation" and shuts down. I have a Geforce GO 6800. Any suggestions?

bazald
I have to say, 163.16 were doing a fine job for me before BiOSHOCK came along. Then BiOSHOCK demo 1.0 started locking up my computer. This driver doesn't help. I blame 2K Games. NVidia just isn't at fault. To 2K Games: Shape up. Release a 1.1 demo. Oh, and let me play the final game without forcing me to activate it online. (There isn't even a multiplayer component.) Otherwise, you'll never see a dime from me. bazald out
envydyauser
You mentioned in the comments the "Bioshock" fix. More importantly, PureVideo HD support for 8xxx series under XP has finally arrived : " * Beta driver release. * This driver supports single GPU and NVIDIA SLI? technology on Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0c and OpenGL® 2.1 support. * Improved compatibility for Bioshock. * Added PureVideo? HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs. * Numerous game and application compatibility fixes. Please read the release notes for more information on product support, feature limitations, driver fixes and known compatibility issues. Thanatos
You should always untinstall your old graphics driver first, because it just stops any complications with overwritting/replacing files by the install. As for getting a driver to work, you should read the "what is a modded inf and do I need one" topic , there is a link at the top of every driver page to the topic. If you're running a laptop you will need to use the modded Inf, or if it tells you when you try to install it that it doesnt support your hardware or something stupid like that, you will need the modded inf. Heres a quick tip on how to install new drivers. Step 1) Download the new drivers and the modded inf. The download links are right at the top of RRR's post. Step 2) Extract the drivers to a new folder on your harddrive. Step 3) Copy and paste the modded inf you downloaded, into the folder with all your extracted contents. Replacing the file when prompted. Step 4) If running a laptop remove any external displays such as lcd's, hd tv's or anything of the sort that is not connected via a vga plug (I don't know if dvi still works without drivers installed or not) Step 5)Uninstall your old graphics driver (right click on my computer, then click on the hardware tab, then device manager. Once there click on the plus sign next to Display, and you will see your graphics controller Geforce XXXXX., right click it and select uninstall.) It will prompt you to restart, select yes. Step 6) Once your computer reboots, navigate to the location you extracted your new drivers to, and scroll to the bottom of the folder and click setup. Do everything it prompts you to, and restart when you are asked to. Viola you're done and everything should be working, you can then right click on your desktop and go to your nvidia control panel and have some fun messing around in there getting it to your liking. If you have an external LCD I wouldn't overly suggest using this driver at the moment, since it seems to be giving some people (including myself) some problems. But of course thats up to you :) . Good luck. Thanatos.

envydyauser
hey folks, anyone got a driver for the geforce go 7400, cant find one anywhere, tried dell (the makers of my laptop) and their driver has me at a max of 1024 x 768 with a horrible flickering refresh when i scroll down web pages :) I have a Go 7300 and have had the same trouble as you in pinpointing the appropriate driver. here is my non-expert opinion : Method #1 = Quick & easy : pick one the latest driver (163.44, but I recommend 162.18) and install it using the modded inf provided Method #2 = Slower but more accurate 1. identify the exact card you have (ie SUBSYS ID) using for example microsoft's devcon.exe utility 2. take the INF from your vendor as reference (in my case Toshiba's 84.68 driver) = it contains your card's settings exactly as the vendor wants them 3. take the modded modded INF from the driver version you want to install (in my case 162.18) & copy all sections that interest you to the previous INf file, being mindful of the overlapping parameters & settings (like I said, I gave priority to my vendor's settings for my card) The result is an INF file tailored specifically for your card (which the modded inf isn't) but which you can use with the latest driver. When you consider the number of submodels of the Go 7400, you see it's a good idea to tailor your INF : VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_00011179 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_001214C0 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_00901025 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01C81028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01CC1028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01D71028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01F31028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01F91028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_01FE1028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_02091028 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_0753152D VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_0F691019 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_12111043 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_12141043 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_1631C018 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_207517AA VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_207F17C0 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_208317C0 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_30B6103C VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_319D109F VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_383317AA VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_39F517AA VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_3C01109F VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_46051961 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_500E17FF VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_55321991 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_56071961 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_666617AA VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_8062144D VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_B03C144D VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_C0221631 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_C024144D VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_C026144D VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_FF001179 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_FF101179 VEN_10DE&DEV_01D8&SUBSYS_FF311179 With this method I've installed 162.18, then 163.16, then yesterday switched back to 162.18 (because of horrible video playback perf). It took me a couple of hours to merge the to INFs, but now I'm happy with my card's perf. cheers envydyauser.
®®®
envydyauser, why not specialize and make an INF for A100 owner, which can then be posted in an own thread here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=
envydyauser
As long as there are no official Release Notes available (there were not yesterday, they are not today) i'll not add the copy and paste blurb. The above mentioned text is with every driver release the same. well, the blurb from 162.18 said (quote) : "PureVideo? HD support is currently only available on Microsoft Windows Vista for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 GPUs. PureVideo HD support for Windows XP will be available an upcoming driver." While the 163.44 blurb says : "Added PureVideo? HD decode acceleration for GeForce 8600, 8500 and 8400 series GPUs." But I agree that the most important thing is neither PureVideo not Bioshock, but the fact that it's a BETA driver. cheers envydyauser EDIT: envydyauser, why not specialize and make an INF for A100 owner, which can then be posted in an own thread here:http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=10. I'm thinking along those lines : I've only recently dedicated the necessary time to this activity. It cannot be the entire A100 range however : too many cards. When you see the number of SUBSYS for the Go 7300 and 7400, it's enough to give gray hair. cheers e/v Edited August 21, 2007 by envydyauser
randal6800
I have a problem with the 100 series drivers. My card is a 6800 go ultra 256 MB. Whenever I install any of the 100 series drivers everything installs fine but when I play the bioshock demo or STALKER the game freezes on me every 5 to 10 seconds. The only way to cure this problem is to roll back to any driver that isn't a 100 series driver. Does anyone know what is going on because the 163.44 drivers improve performance in Bioshock except for the freezing. Thanks for your help.
