Running these on my 7900GS Inspiron 9400.

Upgraded from 169.09.

They seem like excellent drivers, performance upgrade from 169.09...and textures feel sharper.

There was an error finding the NvTray DLL that loads upon first boot with the drivers but other then that flawless.

Installed these on my 7900GS Toshiba P105-S921 laptop after I reformatted this morning with a new install of XP. Required a bit of tweaking to get standby and hibernate working, but, way cooler running than the 169.61s that I had sitting on my old OS install. It seems like my clock speed issues were also resolved since then (haphazardly underclocked before).

The only difficulty I faced was in trying to run any HL2:E2 based games. They simply crashed on boot. I had to rebuild my WMI repository to fix it up. Almost certainly this was a result of my dodgy OS install rather than the drivers, but, I felt it worth mention.

Having some difficulty saving profiles, though, but, likewise, it is probably more of my fault.

installed as recommended without uninstalling the old driver

3DMark06 (1028x800, no AA) results:

177.66: 2826

177.70: 2844

177.73: 2847

177.79: 2848

so next time it's going to be an half point? ^^

I dont know if it is only with me, but the temperature of my VGA (8600M GT) is a little higher compared to 177.73, about 4 degrees higher.

the same with you guys??

I have installed this drivers (deliting old 177.73 drivers, restart, driversweeper, restart), with modded inf and drivers from this site. Works good but...

The GPU runs now always on its highest settings, powersaving doesn't seem to work for me anymore.

Hi all,

i recently got the ACER 5930g (P8400 4GB DDR2 667 nv9600m GT 512MB DDR3 (500/1250/1600 : core/shader/mem)).

I found some drivers for WinXP32 in a forum (174.90) and i hit 10800 mark in 3DMark06. With this 177.79 i only get 8900 marks.

Cheers.

PS: No way to overclock this graphic card (RivaTuner, AtiTool, nTune) and no matter the driver (177.79, 177.70, 175.95, 175.26...) i used. Any sugestion?????

try and uninstall the driver, then restart. This will load 'standard vga adapter' to your device list.

1)restart into safe mode.

2)run an application called 'driver sweep'

3)restart,

4)install driver.

This will stop driver versions conflicting, and often stops overclocking

Guest Hannes The Hun

just on a quick note:

after the awesome 175.80 release I tried these 177.79 drivers with modded inf, and behold, they rock!

on my DELL XPS M1530 with 4gig of RAM and XP pro 32bit, the 3Dmark06 results rocketed from already really good 4803 to astounding 4910 3Dmarks!

additionally, with PhysX driver release 8.07.18, I now officially have GPU PhysX support enabled.

powermizer seems to be working, I can see the frequencies going up and down with gpu-z

GPU temperature is really good. I love this release! :)

p.s. I didn't do this nvidia-related BIOS "update" from DELL yet

I did exactly that all the times, and I got no OC wthatsoever, with any of them.

More ideas???? Any clue???

BTW, thank you so much for your reply :)

is it pluged into the mains? if its running on battery, there is no way the GPU can be overclocked.

(i know its pretty simple, but just a thought)

Using this driver I had the same issues like I had with 177.73.

My Cienma Display was detected wrong after rebooting a second time after install.

hmm... just asking, I'm new to here, but why there is no 17x.xx version available to download from http://laptopvideo2go.com/drivers anymore ?? Is there any sort of bug for 17x.xx drivers for laptop ? Bcoz I'm using 171.16 until now and search for updated drivers but the only thing I found is version 169.09 as the latest driver and I just find out 177.xx from the forum, I'm a little confused here, sorry if this question was asked before~~

@Neku: I don't think they update that page anymore. I'm not sure.

This driver is good, but it's either 177.79 or another driver for me. :)

Ok... try what i said before... but this time restart it into normal mode. (this is to confirm that 'standard VGA adapter' is being used. then restart into safe mode, then run driver sweeper. (if its not using standard VGA adapter, then the sweeper wont be able to delete all DLL files of Nvidia's pervious versions. This will cause the conflict)

so..

uninstall driver,

restart

restart into safe mode

run driver sweeper,

restart,

install driver,

install rivaTuner

try to overclock.

(if you are using XP, go into Nvidia control pannel and disable powermizer and smartdimmer)

** may be an issue with your latop.

failing that install a 169.** version, then install a 177.79 version imediatl afterwareds. Then try to overclock. I think its def. a driver conflict

Hi again, wook,

i'll try to restart in normal mode so i now is running a standard VGA adapter.

(if you are using XP, go into Nvidia control pannel and disable powermizer and smartdimmer)

I must be idiot... how the hell i didn't see that before :)

Thank you again.

BTW, I know powermizer but i don't know smartdimmer... i will google a bit.

Hi again,

I've tried the following:

1) Uninstall NVidia drivers

2) Restart into Safe Mode

3) Run Driver Sweeper 1.5.5 & Driver Cleaner Pro

4) Restart into Normal Mode and check that a standard VGA driver was used

5) Restart into Safe Mode

6) Run Driver Sweeper 1.5.5 & Driver Cleaner Pro again

7) restart into Normal mode

8) Install new driver

9) Run Nvidia Control Panel and deactivate PowerMizer and Startdimmer

10) Install RivaTuner 2.09

11) Try to OC

And I had no luck with 177.83 and 177.70.

It seem to me that the problem is with RivaTuner, since it doesn't detect clocks correctly. It says 400/800/500 while them are 500/1250/800 (core/shaders/mem).

So, i've tried ntune wich is the only app wich detect clocks accurately, but I couldn't OC either.

So, what can I do?

Thank you all.

rivaTuner doesnt detect my clocks correctly either.

sorry im fresh out of ideas. the only problems i have had overclocking are with pervious fragements conflicting... and yes, also did a whole clean install only to realise that my laptop was not pluged in to the mains.. haha..

If you have backups, maybe a clean install could be a good idea. i do it once every 2 months anyway, just to keep my system running fast.

At least then if it still wont overclock you know its not a driver issue.
