Does it mean that the driver does NOT support Powermizer? Which is the "best" (hm, say latest) driver that does support PM? Hardware is ASUS V1S with GeForce 8600M GT

Hardware is ASUS V1S with GeForce 8600M GT PM is off by default with this driver, but you can turn it back on with Powermizer Switch: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276 This is the most stable driver for my 8600M GT to date. I haven't tried the 180 series, though, but I'm not bothering yet since people seem to be having Fallout 3 issues, and that game happens to be my current addiction. Pistino01
this may sound weird lo but what is a powermizer ??? :)
wook
to cut a long story short it saves battery power for your laptop. clocks the core and memory down when you are not using 3D apps and games. it also prolongs the life of your GPU. Pistino01
oh right , but my alienware 179.13 driver doesnt have it either . it only has 2 3D modes low , high and it switches between them . most of the other drivers have atleast 3 modes 1. 2D mode , 2. low 3D , 3. High 3D . So are you saying that this driver only has one mode ?? the highest ?? and never switches to a lower mode ??? ngreyfell
** Note that this driver runs hot. Downclocking may occur on your system. it only runs hotter because powermizer is disabled. i've disabled powermizer with the last 3 drivers when plugged in and they've all given me the same temps, including this one. although this driver is not clocking down to 2d speed, which i like as the 2d speeds make aero run like poop. Guest Guest Myloch
dunno...I use this one with geforce 9600m gt and powermizer feature works unlike people said in this thread. I see in gpu-z that gpu core and memory frequencies change so with my pc the powermizer is ON by default. Weird.
droozel
Powermizer not working either on my 8600m GT. Temps are very high, about 70-71c all the time, is this normal?? What temps do you getting guys?
ngreyfell
Powermizer not working either on my 8600m GT. Temps are very high, about 70-71c all the time, is this normal?? What temps do you getting guys? those are the exact temps i get with powermizer off, and i also have a g1s. download powermizer switch ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276 ) and enable it. the cool thing about this driver is it only has the 2 3d clocks, and not the 2d clock, so aero runs smoothly even with powermizer enabled. wook
no runs hot because its a fast driver. obviously runs hotter with powermizer disabled, but even during gaming when you need 3D performance, it runs too hot. I wont be using this driver as it will fry my GPU
coolcop06
my 8600m gt runs as hot a 79c on fallout 3 sometimes, dont worry about those temps. above 89c is bad.
ngreyfell
my 8600m gt runs as hot a 79c on fallout 3 sometimes, dont worry about those temps. above 89c is bad. mine usually tops out at 91c on fallout 3 (or any game), but unfortunately g1s's run hot. idle temp is 71c when PM is off. those are the temps i've had since day one with this laptop with a dozen different drivers, including manufacturer drivers. if it burns up it's best buy's problem! i'm not OCing anything. Guest Lycan
Haven't had an issue with powermizer with my X55SV on this driver as of yet. 180.43 was downclocking in Mass Effect, but this one seems fine. Temps seem o.k too. I'm a constant 63 degrees on the desktop which is a little higher than I might like, however in games it generally spikes to a maximum of 75, or 82 in 3dmark. I'll live. It is fast though - 4801 3dmarks (1280x800) compared to the 4424 with 180.43 on my 9500M GS running at 575/425. What can I say :)
Spax87
great performance. notice no downclocking yet. fallou 3 runs better although its still stuttery. must be fixed witch a patch from bethesda.
Guest Lycaon
Just doubling back on those temps :) Opened up my laptop today, the fan itself didn't seem too awful with only a little "surface dust", however I went and cleaned it out with our air compressor anyway, and now my temps are at a very cool 50 degrees on idle, fluctuating between 60 and 72 under load. Still running at an overclocked 575/425. Performance is also great. Mass Effect is playable with everything maxed (except filtering) at a native res of 1440x900. That was with a CPU capped to 1200 Mhz as I rather stupidly changed the powerplan the night before and didn't change it back! Does anyone know what the "Link State" under PCI Express in power management does? I was having this odd issue where the whole laptop would shutdown today (temps were fine), however on the high performance profile yesterday, I was "stress testing" so to speak for hours on end with no issue what so ever. Also be aware that 180.43 might not have been responsible for the downclocking - because ntune can have issues at startup, I attempted to try RivaTuner today, which downclocked almost immediantly in any 3d app to the "low performance 3d" profile. However, after a reboot and trying ntune again, the issue went away.
