Frost206
I can do everything fine. But playing games is out of the question.. Games such as WoW and CoD4 I get into the game and I just have horrible FPS and its really choppy. Its not a driver issue, since I have installed and tested 3 different drivers 179.13 177.92 Dox 178.24 I finally settled on Dox 180.84.1 I used to be able to play fine with Alienware 179.13 and I dont know what happened all of a sudden I just drop in FPS and everytime I restart its the same. I really dont know what the problem is anymore. This has happened before to the point where I had to get a new motherboard. I got a new one replaced the old one installed everything, everything worked like a charm Then after a month maybe. I get this again.. and its really iritating. Its not to the point where I cant play flash games cause I play those 100% smooth but Direct3D games and OpenGL games and everything else seems to be out of the question. Andrew55
Okay, first what are your GPU temps?

Andrew55
Okay, but what are your gaming temps as that is what I'll need to see if it is a overheating gpu or not. Most likely it wouldn't be that, but I remember you had problems with your mobo before.
Frost206
Yeah its not.. because its whenever I start up the game its always choppy and bad FPS. And everything lags, I have WoW open my temp is at 74. And now even firefox is lagging. I close wow Everything is back to normal Its the same for CoD4 too. Andrew55
Okay, last thing, try the 174.74 drivers and see what is the result.
Frost206
You've recomended these before.. whats so special about them.. Im installing them right now but yeah.. I'll tell you after i reboot. EDIT: Nope same thing... Edited December 28, 2008 by Frost206
Andrew55
They are very stable basically, that's all. I normally recommend it to ensure that the problem is not with the driver.
Frost206
Yeah.. well same thing. What should i do now? And I really dont want to reformat because I cant save WoW anywhere and I dont want to spend 10 huors downloading all 3 again.. Edited December 28, 2008 by Frost206
Andrew55
Yeah, I was just going to suggest a reformat. Besides that, I don't know what else to recommend. As you say the games were working before and it isn't a problem with your gpu. One more question: When the games run, do they run for a period of time normally and then become choppy or is it like that as soon as you put on the game? Frost206
As soon as i put on the game.
Andrew55
Well, sorry looks like the only solution i can think of is a reformat.
Galdere
Is powermizer setup right?
Andrew55
That was what I was thinking originally but the problem occurs unlike with powermizer when the game runs properly for a few minutes and then the gpu downclocks. It could be that though.
Bades
Defrag your computer? Also it may sound like im treating you like a noob here but im not, but make sure your power option is set to high performance. a lot of ppl try to play games on power saver. I'm sure that is not the problem though.

I'm sure that is not the problem though. I was about to ask the same thing when I seen your post show up on the reply page. I've gotten as far as throwing a few choice words around while in an online game b4 when it dawned on me that I had put my laptop in power saver mode the night before. Only other thing I can think of is.. if you ever used Ntune its possible u down clocked your card. Use GPU-Z to see your core and memory clocks when gaming. zipper
Launch RivaTuner on the background with monitoring on so you see the temperatures and clocks during playing.
forrmat
hi! maybe You have malware or something? Last week i was fighting with lgvista.exe - everything was so slow! I've noticed that cpu was on 100% ! check by ctrl+alt+delete for wierd programs. If it sounds nooby for You - sorry - i'm a begginer. zipper
That's a good point, to check if something is hogging CPU cycles.
Guest Frost206
I just reformatted and its the same problem... So I guess its my Mobo A F(&^*** GAIN.... I think its time for this comp to go in the trash. Even though its only 1 1/2 years old.
Frost206
Okay for some reason. My GPU is clocked at 400/1100 and default is 400/550 I didnt do this clock its automatic. Should I change it? Err.. could someone give me a link to the latest nTune? Edited December 28, 2008 by Frost206
Andrew55
Ntune: http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html However, I don't think that report is right. The reason I say this is: Remember last time when your mobo had problems your cpu speed and multiplier and gpu clock speed was being reported as all kinds of weird figures? Problem repeating perhaps?
Frost206
Yeah but that was my Multipliers.. I know this is accurate because when I used ntune before the setting was at 1100 but whats this.. Guest Guest
In your 1st gpu-z shot the 1100 and 550 are the same speed. the 1100 is being reported as single channel and the 550 is being reported as duel channel. In your second shot 100/200.. thats the real speed your gpu is running at the moment. This is fine as long as it kicks into 3D mode when a game starts. Start gpu-z and check sensors.. should be 100/200 2D.. now fire up a game and run that for a few seconds. Leave the game running and Alt+Tab to desktop and see if your clocks jump to 400/550 or not. If they do and performance is still bad something else is the problem. possibly your pci-e slot running in 1x mode or something strange like that. Frost206
How do i check what speed my pci-e slot is running at because they went up.
