There seems to be 2 versions of this driver.

1) The version we have that has the Digital Vibrance fix but has a changed date on the original INF file (09-09-04) hence no WHQL (driver dates 09-18-04)

2) The version that still has the Digital Vibrance problem but is WHQL (they are certainly not linked)

StationDrivers yesterday had many problems with hosting the drivers and they seemed to change in size on everytime somebody downloaded it.

I like the version I manged to get, as it seems to have everything working that didn't in 65.90-66.00, any Laptop owner won't have to worry about WHQL as they can only use these with a modded INF.

This driver is a very good driver if you get the right version.

Yesterday i installed our version with the latest INF on a friends Toshiba M30 Pro (FX5200 32 MB) (old version was 45 something) and it worked like a charm. I dediced to install this version because the resume from Larry sounds promising. We played Sacred for 7 hours and the image quality and performance was much better than with 45.xx

The whole updating process took about 5 minutes, which reminded me of that guy in the thank you thread. Great work.

I wonder if the Digital Vibrance works in this one...

[EDIT]Yeah it's broken alright :) Dammit they are doing this on purpose! :) [/EDIT]

It can't be broken, the files are the same size except for nv4_disp.inf (6 bytes smaller)

Could nVidia have changed something while keeping the file sizes the same.

can someone do a check, as I can't do a CRC check with my technology.

What is going on here ?

#@$#@%#@% cursed driver, the time I've wasted on this.

I've uploaded both versions of this driver, I would recommend the NON Certified version as it works as it should.

I hope this is the last of this very confusiong driver.

  • v66.32:
  • Video playback issue from 66.31 seems to be fixed

:: OPINION [*by LSudlow]

  • 66.31 (both WHQL and Non-WHQL versions) and 66.32 are nearly identical drivers. Each is stable and consistent with recent releases 65.73 and 65.90, which means they are very good drivers. Changes are minor and are limited to specific hardware support and bug fixes. The problem I reported with version 66.00, where 3DMark01 looped continuously, is now fixed.
  • To customize the appearance and performance of games, you now must create an application profile with the settings you want for each game, including things like brightness, contrast, digital vibrance, anistropy, antialiasing, etc. Creating a new profile isn't particularly intuitive, so we'll post a set of directions on our FAQ page soon. [uPDATE: you'll find the instructions HERE ]
  • Since this set should be fully compatible with both SP2 and DX9c, and since they knock out some bugs without losing speed, all three are definitely worth a look.

Yeah, digital vibrance is broken on both WHQL and non. Oh well, C'est la vie.

Thanks,

John, this is by design. NVidia now wants you to create an application profile for your games, otherwise games just revert to default settings.

Set your Digital Vibrance, then save it in a new Application Profile for your game. It should work.

Hi,

Running the nonWHQL 6631 driver which seems good - apart from the fact that the application profiles dont seem to work properly - they only use the global settings and ignore anything application specific

Can you help?

Cheers

I used Windiff from the XP Support tools to compare both drivers packages and the ONLY difference is the INF as you already found out yourself:

Original 66.31:

NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0171.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440/440SE"

WHQL 66.31:

NVIDIA_NV17.DEV_0171.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440"

The rest is bit to bit equal. This makes it impossible that there is a differnece in the Digital Vibrance function.

Just leave the files seperate, I'm completely confused with this driver, it behaves differently for everybody, one thing is sure no one had DV working with the WHQL verison (or no one has said).

Stick with 65.73, it works as it should, if nVidia has choosen the profile path, what a step backwards .

Agreed in regards to what Pieter said. Stick with the 65.73's for now.

I will try it that way just for the sake of testing and report back here. Sir yes sir! <salutes>

I've just tried it and it works, though the method isn't at all obvious or easy to use. (Someone might want to copy the following into an FAQ.)

Steps to Create an Application Profile

1. In the nVidia Control Panel, adjust all color, contrast, digital vibrance, and gamma settings to your preferred settings for your application or game.

2. Save the new settings as a custom color profile and click on "Apply". For example, for Morrowind, I'd save it as the "Morrowind" color profile.

3. On the Performance and Quality page, adjust all antialiasing, anisotropic, etc. settings to whatever you want for your application or game. Make sure the correct color profile appears on this page. In the example above, the color profile on this page should read "Morrowind." If it doesn't, go back to the Color Correction page an apply the game's color profile.

4. At the top of the Performance and Quality page, click on the "Add Profile" button.

5. Assign a name to your new profile (usually the game's name), then browse for the game's main executable. In this example I named the profile Morrowind, and browsed for morrowind.exe.

6. You should be all set. Restore your normal desktop settings, then launch your application or game. The profile settings should take effect almost immediately and your normal desktop settings should return when you exit.

7. If you discover some of your settings aren't being applied correctly, open your new profile and put a checkmark in the boxes of all settings. (You may need to reset some of the settings to the values you want.)

I found another v66.31 release. This time on the Albatron FTP. Can someone download and do a filecompare with the 2 versions we have on our server as i have limited traffic on my DSL connection?

HERE's the link.

Removed non WHQL from server, people are confused with DV.

It only doesn't work in games, works fine with desktop.

Just make a Profile, save and use with game to have DV.

I'm downloading 66.31 from Albatron now Dontknow, will get back in awhile with wether they are the same.

66.31 from Albatron is exactly the same as the leaked WHQL driver, except dates on files are 30th August, as they should be.

Rest easy Dontknow, unlimited bandwidth dialup to the rescue.

Ok, thanks Pieter for verifying. Dialup with unlimited traffic is preferable than SDSL 2300DL/512UL kbit/s and 1 GB cap :)

  • 2 weeks later...

First off, my ADSL (3008 kbps up and 384 kbps down) with UNLIMITED bandwidth pwns both your dial-up and dontknow's SDSL with the bandwidth cap.

Anyway, I just want to know if there is a way to make the 66.31 driver remember to set my digital vibrance settings and clone mode on start-up.

When I set clone mode and restart it goes back into the single display mode.

And digital vibrance also resest itself when it boots up, atleast most of the time I think.

Is there some way to make it remember or a way to make a file that will run at start-up to turn on clone mode?

I see that it might not be possible to make digital vibrance work correctly, I can just hit a hotkey to turn on clone mode which also turns digital vibrance on if you can't fix it.

Edit: Is anybody going to respond to this post? It seems like all of you mods are just ignoring me. I didn't type all this out for no reason.

Bill

P.S. For those of you wondering, if I left my laptop on downloading stuff at full speed 24/7, I could download about 10 Terabytes in one year.

For all you math wizzes (spelling?) that think you know more about ADSL and overhead than me, I said ABOUT 10 TB.

Edit: For some reason when I boot my laptop it now remembers to apply my digital vibrance setting with this driver (I know its very strange).

Now I just need to get the problem fixed so it will turn clone mode on when I boot my laptop, if anybody knows of an INF setting or something that could be causing it to not work please tell me, this is the ONLY bug I am having with this driver, otherwise it is pretty much perfect.
