®®®
here is a nice article: http://www.nvnews.net/articles/interviews/...w_2003_10.shtml what could be important is a passage where "NVIDIA" states that PowerMizer (!) has control of LCD Backlight: PowerMizer, which is made up of a combination of software and hardware features, includes a variety of automatic and intelligent power management features that reduce the power used by the GPU, the LCD backlight, and the CPU:... - Leaving "off" most parts of the GPU unless they are being used ... - Intelligent control of the LCD backlight to automatically dim the screen when the system is idle in an almost imperceptible manner What are the known powermizer settings Pieter? Could they affect LCD backlight? Also what about the SpreadSpectrum setting. Anyone has clue about the WiFi issue?
mobilenvidia
Powermizer has different stat up values that can control what is displayed in the panel (ie no battery) There are also comands for both in AC and Battery mode. See the HKR tweaks TXT I made else where, crammed full of possible settings. I'll shift this file so everybody can see it. SpreadSpecrum in my days was to reduce radiation emmitted from an electrical device. It tries to cancel it out/lower the radiation emmited ? There are quite a few settings for this (see HKR tweaks elsewhere) Nearly every single model has (not just make) has different settings for this. We'll need people to test the settings, Two project to work on, Pieter.

mobilenvidia
So disabeling Powermizer should fix the problem then, the backlight will remain on bright in AC/Battery but should still goto standby/hibernate just like a desktop ? This should be tried first then to confirm wether it affects it. Then trying various settings to confirm what each does, I know that powermizer default just turns of various page settings (ie battery bar, sliders etc) Pieter. ®®®
So a pattern is starting to emerge: NVCT = Gericom, Olidata, TOSHiBA, PowerPro, Zepto NVMT = Gericom, HiGrade, Issam, Mitac listed drivers versions: v44.85 v44.89 v46.90 (Toshiba release) v56.54 (mobile driver) v56.63 (mobile driver) v56.82 (Toshiba release) v60.60 (mobile driver) v61.12 (mobile driver) affected cards: GF4 420 Go (SSF 185): DEV_0175&SUBSYS_FF001179 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 GF4 420 Go 32M (SSF 80): DEV_0176&SUBSYS_103013BD v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 GF4 440 Go (SSF 375): DEV_0174&SUBSYS_FF001179 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 GF4 460 Go (SSF 385): DEV_0177&SUBSYS_FF001179 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5200 (SSF 185): DEV_0324&SUBSYS_FF001179 v44.85 v44.89 v46.90 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5200 (SSF 80): DEV_0328&SUBSYS_103D13BD v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5200 32M/64M (SSF 80): DEV_0328&SUBSYS_103013BD v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5250 (SSF 185): DEV_0325&SUBSYS_FF001179 v44.85 v44.89 v46.90 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5600 (SSF 185): DEV_031A&SUBSYS_FF001179 v44.85 v44.89 v46.90 v56.54 v56.63 v60.60 v61.12 FX Go5700 (SSF 185): DEV_0348&SUBSYS_FF001179 v56.54 v56.63 v56.82 v60.60 v61.12 only these cards are affected (note the subsys FF thing). I would dare to say that on DELL this setting should be left alone, as these are MT and CT INFs.
mobilenvidia
Someone with a working WIFI connection will need to test the Spreadspectrum settings. Best someone with the WIFI problem with these drivers. I have a WIFI capable lappy but no way of testing it (no WIFI near me) See which settings work or if it works at all etc etc. Then I can incorporate into the INFs. Pieter. ®®®
when you look at the subsys id and read this post from Teraphy http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=4 (topic 4!!! LOL) then it is confirmed that Subsys reflect OEMs: SUBSYS 103013BD = Gericom, HiGrade, Issam, Mitac = NVMT.INF SUBSYS FF001179 = Gericom, Toshiba = NVCT.INF I searched in all INFs from v37.62 - v61.12 for SpreadSpectrumFactoring. These are the only Laptop models with SSF setting in then mentioned INFs in the post above. So the affected model should be Gericoms and strange Toshiba's. The values are: dec 80 = hex 0x00000050 dec 185 = hex 0x00000b9 dec 375 = hex 0x00000177 dec 385 = hex 0x00000181
mobilenvidia
So what you are saying is that laptops with a Subsys of FF001179 are made by Compal !! (NVCT (NVidia CompalToshiba?) Compal makes the same laptop (internals) for Toshiba and Gericom, Toshiba and Gericom + maybe others just add a case and all the parts, but only for FF001179 A the world of laptops just got smaller, Compal are a very big fish in the very big pond of laptops. Pieter.
®®®
CT = CompalToshiba :) Thats it!!! I didn't know that, though you and Teraphy always mention Compal. Are these the one which does NOT have the BlackBar problem (the Compal ones)? Although i'm not the affected SUBSYS, i just tested SSF 80 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 185 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 375 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 385 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection Edited January 12, 2005 by ®®®
mobilenvidia
I knew that Compal made lappies under license for Toshiba. The thread pinned on top has been very handy in proving that Compal laptops don't have the black bar problem. And also that there are 2 different INFs needed for Toshiba laptops. And 2 'Mobile' settings. Are the Compal models cheaper models (I havn't delved in this since my Tecra 510 and Sattelite 530). Pieter
®®®
:) man, you are real "old schooler" , Satellite 530 LOL :jumpyjoy: The Compal ones are by way cheaper, see Gericom, which is an European OEM and see here: http://www.powernotebooks.com/articles/Name_Brand.php3 In my opinion and defenitely in case of Gericom, they have bad quality of parts and support. Thats why they're so cheap. Never ever get a gericom. btw powernotebook site sells one of the "affected" (who needs the SSF setting) PowerPro Notebooks which use NVCT.inf and seems to be a Compal made one: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=472 I downloaded another v44.89 from their site some days ago :) SSF 185 with WiFi = everything ok
®®®
ok tested all four setting, i'm on WiFi right now (reboot everytime) SSF 80 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 185 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 375 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection SSF 385 with WiFi: everything works fine, full connection I expected nothing else, as i'm on v52.16 (which is not in the driver list above) and have not the affected subsys FF00.... which is Compalmade. I have a REAL Toshiba :)
oVan
dontknow, as you're testing with 52.xx you are not going to have any wifi probs I think... I only encountered them with the 60-series... oVan
