Seems to work well, simple install, no BSOD's.

Video is fine, no games on there to play with.

I tried these drivers after creating a restore point. Trying to use the modded *.inf said a file was missing and would not install. So I tried with the desktop *.inf and it worked. Now I have Aero Glass working :) but the downside is that there is no Nvidia Control Panel :) . So I can't make any adjustments.

I've not got aero running right now since (for the moment at least) it's only running on a DX8 GPU, going to have another shot at installing on the S3 though (installing to usb caddy).

Haven't tried it, but the 87.15 drivers were made specifically for 5308, so they would be the first to try.

Yes, but the 87.15 drivers didn't work. You always got a black screen after booting vista.

O.K i'll think i have to try it.. but i'm a bit too lazy at the moment to install

As I have stated above in my setting, I have a Sager w/6800. The modded *.inf did not work but using the mormal (desktop) *.inf that comes with the drivers on Nvidia's site works. But no Control Panel.

Hmm, doesn't work for me. No matter what *.inf I've used - still got that "Error 43"-Message in the device manager after the next bootup. I furthermore didn't get any error-message while installing the driver. Not with the modded inf nor the original one.

I'm having same problem.

Modded INF won't install, but original does (with forced GPU) :)

I only added Mobile GPU's to the INF nothing else so I don't know why the error comes up as it shouldn't.

I think Microsoft is checking the INF against another file with GPU's and if it differs it won't install.

This could be part of what's to come when only WHQL drivers will install with Vista.

All micosoft marketing, as vendors will need to pay microsoft to have drivers WHQL'ed, so the drivers updates will probably become rare for some OEM's.

If your GPU doesn't show up when you try to install this driver then:

Here's what to do, do NOT replace orignal INF with modded one.

When installing using update driver way, when it asks for where the driver is point it to driver (with original INF)

Now untick the box that says 'Show compatable hardware' a heap of GPU's will show up.

Pick any GPU, that is not a Quadro as the install is the same for all GPU's except Quadro's.

Now the driver will install without problems, only problem is in the system properties the wrong GPU will show up.

Now on my GF2go the driver installs just fine using the above method, BUT upon reboot I get a BSOD with a memory page error.

Some have had success with the above.

If you have an error like me, you'll need to let Vista search for drivers, and install these.

These drivers (mine is 16.20) won't have Aero effects but will allow 2D/3D accelleration.

The control panel for me doesn't work , I just get a Rundll error.

I hope this helps some of you, been many hours of trial and error.

Hehe... atleast you get an error... My Vista (5308) just do NOTHING, it says (Installing driver) but the screen just "loads" forever. The same goes for every other driver I try to install. My Vista simply dont allow me to do anything. Im not allowed to go into the task manager and close frozen operations, it says "Not allowed".

After this I decided that Vista really is sucky as hell... Its looks like we've gone back to the 60's with all the freaking colors, instead of making a OS that really works.

I simply cant do anything in my Vista but run things. My gfx wont install not with any driver, and neither does my sound card. My gfx is btw. DESKTOP 5800 ULTRA.

Really hope Microsoft does something about the lack of driver support (They removed all Legacy support and that includes GAMEPORTS :) )

I'm looking for most recent drivers b/c the ones on the Dell are from like Sept of '05 and WoW & Oblivion jsut dont' seem to run as well as they should and the drivers straight from nvidia of corse don't work with Dell parts.

Latest driver for XP is 84.43

Latest Dell driver is 84.29

i dled it and the modified INF and tried hitting update drivers and chose the folders locatioin and it couldnt install!!!!!!

I'm in the same boat with build 5342 of Vista and any driver (except my orignal 16.20)

Get windows to look for a driver online and use this, you'll probably have more luck with WHQL driver, even though it might be an old driver.

You may have more luck with Vista build 5365, I can install 83.40 (XP driver included with 5365)

Well nvidia claims most fx5xxx go cards like the 5600 will be vista compatible

does that mean i will be able to use the cool aero transparent theme and the cool minmize preview window and stuff.
