Fabrice Roux
Well with all the people talking about trying Vista on their laptop... I made the jump... digged a 80Gb HDD that was on a shelf. Plugged in it in my desktop computer... shoved the 64bits DVD install that I downloaded earlier... and waited. The PC is not a UBER GEEKY MOFO... it's a nice Athlon 64 X2 4400+ with 3Gb of RAM and a GF 7600 plugged in a 24" Samsung LCD monitor. Main use when not trying an OS... Photo retouche. After a good hour of install... you end up with a 15Gb monster on the HDD that uses 1Gb or RAM and 1Gb of swap file when you have one instance of Internet Explorer on Google main page. The eye candy didn't brought the expected 5 minutes hardon... And MAN so little apps installed it's disappointing. Last week the Ubuntu trial was a slap in the face in comparison. In 15 minutes tops Ubuntu allows you to do most of what you need with a desktop computer. The HDD is now heading to a network storage unit... a much better use of the capacity it offers.
