I need some help:

I am about to purchase a dell inspiron 8500: 2.4 Ghz, Nvidia GeForce4 420 Go, 1gb RAM blah blah blah

Looking on websites, i see that the geforce4 does not support directx 9, which is required to play the game

If I updated the drivers (please specify which one I should use) would it work?

First of all I don't believe the 8500's came with 420 gos, I think you mean the 4200 go.

Either way the 4200 go, while better, is only a pixel shader 1.3 card. (still DX8)

So a game that only runs on a DX 9 hardware level card will not run on yours.

But there is hope, the 8500 and 8600 both support DX9 level cards, although you might have to modify the cards to prevent overheating.

Look for an 8500/8600 with a 9600 pro or a GeForce FX card like the 5650, or the Quadro FX 700 GoGL.
