Hey all, this is what I got

Dell XPS Gen 2

2.13 Ghz

2 gig RAM

256 MB GeForce Go Ultra

I've just opened up the computer to clean out all the dust which makes me wonder, is it possible to get a new video card? And if so, any recommendation on what and where to get it? I am wary of asking Dell as in they just treat me like an idiot.

Which graphics card do you have exactly?

Is it the 6800 Go Ultra?

Or could it be a 7800 GTX Go?

Those 2 will work in yours.

It might even be possible to put a 7900 GTX Go (or future GF8 card) into an M170.

well, I have the 6800 Go ultra. I don't have an M170...that's the Gen3, right?

I'm pretty sure the XPS Gen2 laptop with the 6800 Ultra IS the M170.

How can you not know though?

*Looks at actual M170*

Yep it says M170 on it, just like all the other Dell laptops have the model type printed in nice easy to read letters between the keyboard and LCD screen.

The M1710 is the new dual core version with the 7900 GTX go as the highest graphics option.

Soon I suspect a new version or updated M1710 will be out with the core 2 duo.

if it is the 6800 Ultra, the answer from Dell is No. I have the same computer.

Last I checked the M170 atleast supported a 7800 GTX Go, especially since you could buy it with one. (about 50% faster than 6800 Ultra Go)

If you don't even know what XPS system you have exactly we can't help you very much.
