toddneal
Great Forum, Need a recommended driver. I recently purchased a Quadro FX Go 700 128MB card for my Dell Latitude D800 laptop on eBay. This card was originally in a Dell Precision Workstation M60. The card works fine. I have Force Ware Version 78.11 - which I got from Dell's site (it 's the driver for the M60). As I have read through the posts on this site, I see that there are certain drivers that are recommended for certain systems and based on the applications run on the machine. I use my laptop mostly for online gaming - World of Warcraft to be specific. Everything else is general windows stuff - Office, Internet, etc. Though I do do some Power Point work from the office on my personal laptop. So what driver is recommended? Thanks Kevin
Bill
If your current driver runs fine for you then you should keep it. I don't think upgrading will improve WOW speed, especially with an older card. Upgrading could break some things, like standby or video playback, especiall a newer driver, or a non dell driver. If you are feeling adventurous you can copy tweaks from the Dell NVDM INF into one of our mod INFs here. (just ask and I can point you in the right direction)
toddneal
Bill, I actually am having a problem. The reason I upgraded was because I was very laggy in WOW. Not due to connection or latency, but because of frame rate problems. Even with the new card my frame rates are often low - like 3-5 fps. What can I do to change / improve this? Thanks
Fabrice Roux
Reduce the game resolution, details and rendering distance.
mobilenvidia
FYI, the modded INFs you find here, include some tweaks to enable hidden features that NV keep hidden fro Quadro users. This I do believe no other site does. Remember the Quadro FX go700 is based on the go5600 core is is getting on a little. Don't expect too much from oder (DX8) GPU's with newer DX9 games
toddneal
Guys, Thanks. I have tried a multide of different settings. Even going so far as to bottom out all the settings. I've even gone into the settings and modified them to enhance 3D rendering - but no luck. I looked around on the WOW and nVidia sites over the weekend and this seem to be a common problem following the last two updates for WOW. Seems to be particularly prevailent with nVidia cards of all types - even the more advanced cards. Is there a good driver that I could use from this site that would possibly correct some of the issues? Thanks Again
sandrokan
Hi! I'm a new member. I have the same nvidia card (quadro fx go700) in a Dell Precision M60. But this card doesn't work well with the game Oblivion. Even if I have selected the less resolution, the game stops after the introduction movie. Do you think any driver update can help me? My current driver (version 4.4.2.4) is dated 27/05/2003... I tryed to update from the nvidia site, but it was impossible.
Fabrice Roux
Oblivion requires at least a GeForce FX to run... you'll have to look for Oldblivion that tricks the game into running on older hardware. But I have to warn you it doesn't look pretty.
Bill
The Quadro FX 700 Go should run the game fine. (even though it has crappy programming and card support) Sandrokan, just get a newer driver from here, 44.24 is way too old. Read the FAQ section here to figure out how to update the drivers. You could also burn that copy of BF2 while reciting incantations against EA.
Fabrice Roux
I thought he was talking about the Quadro 4 700 GoGL... the comment about Oldblivion still stands. The FX crawls really bad with the default shaders.
Guest Guest
Thanks for your suggestions. Now I'll try to update the driver, I hope to understand how to do! I only want to ask Bill the meaning of the last sentence: "You could also burn that copy of BF2 while reciting incantations against EA." And also, what do you mean writing "even though it has crappy programming and card support"? If it wasn't clear, my English is quite bad... Thanks a lot, Sandrok ps: if the game doesn't work after the update... How can I look for Oblivion that tricks the game into running on older hardware? Bill
I meant the game stinks, its code stinks, its graphics card support stinks. EA's support, or lack thereof, also stinks. The latest BF game even has spyware built into it. Here are just a few links, even a new one about it uninstalling windows security patches. http://digg.com/gaming_news/BattleField_21...pyware_included http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/ea/battlefiel...kers-208695.php http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3154527 Your better off saving for UT2007, or a Gears Of War PC version, ect...
