Nvidia abandoning MXM concept?

__-_-_-__

Recommended Posts

recently i contact nvidia... i'll quote:

"Configure-to-order upgradeable graphics through notebook manufacturers, or potentially by consumers"

NVIDIA provides mobile GeForce and Quadro GPUs to laptop and notebook manufacturers only. NVIDIA do not sell add in cards for laptops.

My notebook manufacture don't have MXM graphic cards for sale.

Where to find manufactures of MXM graphic cards so I can buy one to upgrade my notebook?"

Answer:

"Thank for contacting NVIDIA Customer Support

Below is a list of OEM launch Partners that may provide add in cards

Uniwill was purchased by ECS - link for ECS is below:

MXM was thought to be a great concept, but NVIDIA has found that most laptop manufacturers do not provide add in cards.

The goal was to create a non-proprietary, industry standard socket, so one could easily upgrade the graphics processor in a laptop.

Hopefully ECS can help

Best regards

NVIDIA Customer Care"

btw, ECS didn't awnser to any email at the moment...

I think that means that manufacturers don't sell the cards directly to the public. Somehow Ice-Tea has worked something out where he can get cards to resell.

I don't see anthing in that post about nVidia abandoning MXM.
