Fabrice Roux
The french nerd news Clubic posted a review of Vista. They benchmarked the gaming between XP and Vista. Using this hardware: Motherboard Asus P5W-DH Deluxe - BIOS 1707, CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, Memory 2x1 GB DDR2 Corsair Twin2X 6400C3, Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX, Hard disk Western Digital Raptor 36 GB Serial-ATA 150 And drivers: XP: 93.71 Vista: 97.34 The performance difference between XP and Vista is as follows: 3DMark 2006 v1.1.0: -3% FEAR 1.08: -7% Doom 3 1.3: -16% Far Cry 1.4: -95% The Far Cry huge performance drop comes from a D3D 100fps limit. So it has no impact of gaming per se. A little reminder the gaming performance drop is bigger because Vista dropped audio acceleration. The advanced sound effects are ran thru the CPU.
