Z81SP upgradeable?

I have a ASUS Z81SP, it has a 6800 go 256mb MXM III card in it now, would I be able to upgrade this to a 7900GS 512 MB card? Possibly a bois update for 512mb vram to be supported?

Also, a little off topic, but since the cpu is a lga 775, does anyone know if there is a bios update for dual core support? I would really like to fit a core duo in it.

A 7900GS has never been tried, but a x1800 worked. Some mechanical hurdles, some thermal, but it worked. AS for the 7900: we won't know untill someone tries :)

Core Duo and Core 2 Duo uses the Socket M which is not pin-compatible with lga 775.

Yes, I currently have a LGA 775 P4 3.8GHz single core desktop CPU (Intel 670 I think) in my Z81SP. I want to do more multi proccess intensive work, so a dual core upgrade would help me a lot. I have worked with the "Pentium D" series of dual core but was very disapointed and was hoping for something better from a LGA 775 core 2 duo.

Is there a way to get the exact mesurements between a standard type III and the arima special? The x1800 photo they supply on mxm-upgrade is the same setup and size as my 6800. If the pictures are the exact board size the only possible complications may occur on the left side of the car (chipset up, data bus towards you). If the card module sticks out passed the mxm socket I might have to make modifications.

The card is as high as a Type II card and 5mm wider to the right and 7mm to the left. Also check here.

About the thermal issues with the x1800, do you think if I were to upgrade to a cedar mill P4 it would take care of the thermal issues?

Also, do you think that you will ever offer the x1800 again? I know it's expensive, but i think that it would be reasonable to still sell it for those who might have compatability issues with the other cards

Currently: no. I'm testing a workaround for those where the thermal system does not respond well to another card, but I'm not getting any x1800's right now.

I have been reading this section of the forum for a year now and I would be ready to test this 7900GS so once for all we will know if it work in a Z81SP.

I have some experience in laptop, once you open up a HP I think you saw everything, when you compare to the Z81SP...

To go a little of topic, Atillamaximum, I would appreciate if you can let me know about the core duo compatibility.

I probably have some homework to do but, I wish to try.
