Jon K
Is there any hope in getting my Geforce 4 4200 Go working under vista? I search google/etc and I am going in circles. About 30 mins from determining it impossible.
Bill
You won't get aero, but it should at least run with an older driver. (pre 9x series, ect)

(pre 9x series, ect) I can't get it to take any drivers - its probably wanting a dell specific driver, which doesn't exist?
®®®
Use modded INF (link is ALWAYS besides Driver download link in ALL driver posts). For example 100 series: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=
Guest TEQ
Use modded INF (link is ALWAYS besides Driver download link in ALL driver posts). For example 100 series: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=70 I've tried all the Nvidia drivers on this forum with the modded inf files and in every case I end up with a code 43 if I install as a 4200 go on my inspiron 8500. Finally managed to get some functionality by forcing it to install as a ti 4200 rather than the 4200 go. Not ideal but at least I can use 1920x1200 @ 32bit. On another note, I find it pretty incomprehensible that an OS interface requires more gpu power than, for example, Unreal Tournament 2003 which plays just fine. I can't quite make up my mind if it's shoddy programming on MS's part or a cynical attempt to make us all rush out and buy shiny new tech. :)

Guest Brian Nichols
DELL Inspiron 8500 Series: For those needing a GeForce4 4200 GO driver for Vista!!!! Vista already has a compatible driver that will allow your 15.4 monitor to display a Fantastic 1650x1080 Areo desktop at 32bits! (Higher resolutions will be avail depending on the external monitor you have attached) Just go to your device manager and select to update the Standard VGA driver. Uncheck the Show ALL compatible drivers and select the nVidia GeForce4 MX 420 (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM) driver. Reboot and enjoy! Performance is kickin! Michael Marley
Brian Nichols, I don't know what you think you are talking about, but the GeForce 4 series does not support Aero and never will. Vista, with Aero, requires at least a GeForce FX or Radeon 9500 (Essentially, a DirectX 9 card) to function. Vista does have a driver for the GeForce 4, but it is an XPDM driver which does not support Aero.
