I saw the asus C90 whitebook, but it only has a type II MXM slot. anyone know of somthing like that with a type III MXM slot?

Id like to build a complete notebook from the ground up thats completely upgradable. Something on either a Merom or new Santa Rosa CPU. 15.4" or 17" LCD, either is fine.

Anyone know of anything like that?

Asus Z84. And the new 17" from MSI but I'm not sure that will be available as barebones.

i cant find the z84 on asus' website, and which 17" msi model is it?

do you have a link to an online retailer you'd recommend to purchase them?

The MSI is MXM, not 100% sure about type III, don't know if it's sold as barebones;

found one:

http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_Z84Jp_17_W...-id-574020.html

is this right? only $900 and it comes with a dvd burner and a 512mb 7600 go video card that can later be upgraded to any type 1/2/3 MXM card?

seems a little cheep for a 17" core 2 duo.

getting the rest of the stuff off newegg:

2ghz 4mb cache C2D(merom): $300

2x 1gb DDR2 SODIMM 667mhz: $80

120gb sata samsung 5400rpm HDD: $70

mini-pci Wifi 802.11a/b/g card: (already have from old mini-itx build w/ dual attena's)

$1400 roughly seems sort of cheep for a notebook that powerful.

Well, keep in mind "upgrading to any type" may be a bit more complicated, but other than that it would seem like a good deal.

But keep in mind you still need an OS and all this says little about warranty.
