Underclocking not lowering temp on GPU (Geforce go 6600)

Hello.

I have a Geforce go 6600 w/128 MB card.

I wanted to try making the GPU run cooler by setting the core and memory clocks lower but the temperature doesn't change at all (reported by RivaTuner). I even set both core and clock to the lowest settings 80/125 mhz and no change. 66 degrees is the lowest idle temp I've reached.

I'm changing clock settings through the nvidia control panel (coolbits).

Can anyone tell me why my GPU temp won't go down?

Probably because the thermal system works with thresholds. The fan won't turn on below 65 degrees, so this is a self regulating syystem with as only difference that the fan turns on less.

That, or your clocks didn't realy change :)

I can hear the fan spinning at a very low RPM when I turn on my laptop and it's warming up.

Or am I screwed and have a GPU that's locked?
