Latitude C840 W2K driver problem

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a clients C840 with W2K installed. When installing XP Pro on a spare hard drive all is fine. There is corporate encryption and security software installed so I cannot update this install.

The nVidia driver will not stay installed. The laptop will start with 640 X 480 at 16 colors with a standard VGA adapter. I install the nVidia 93.71 Forceware driver and when the computer reboots everything looks great with 1600 X 1200 and 32 bit color. Sounds great but when I reboot again the old resolution and color depth reappear. Very frustrating.

Any thoughts?

Does the c840 come with an older GPU like the GF4 4xx Go series? If so, use an older driver with Pieter's INF like 72.14 or 66.67 or 52.16 or even 44.68
