BobFahey
CAN U PLZ TEST 163.75 (COZ I INSTALLED OTHERS LIKE 169.04 ETC WHICH HAVE LAAG TYPE IN COUNTER STRIKE ) AND I USE XP 8400M GS 128MB With no O/C, drivers 177.41 on Vista ultimate 64bit: Scored 1815 3dmark06 on my 8400m GS ddr3 128MB w/4GB installed on my HP dv2700t laptop. I was able to finally get 3dmark06 working after 'run as administrator' on the openal install. I'm able to get around 90fps with alot of high settings on CS:S. I was getting 20fps, but for some reason, that stopped, don't know exactly what I did to fix it, but if you are getting very low fps's in CS:S, you have something not set right. I did set the drivers to 'performance', apply, and then made sure all the 'let the app decide' was set. Seeing some other posts, it may even been the optional DX9 stuff in the 3dmarks installation that fixed my CS:S from lagging. I'm going to install the dx9.0c just for giggles. OK, just installed dx9 and it didn't make any difference, so if the dx components that 3dmark06 activated, then that was all I needed, if that was the help I needed to get a good score. orb 3dmark06 test results Edited July 15, 2008 by BobFahey

Guest dancom96
Sorry for the double post, but good news :) 3DMark05 Score: 4584 Stock Clocks: 400/800/400 OC'd Clocks: 630/1705/475 Temp Max: 71c (Undervolted my CPU, which made that colder, which made the GPU slightly colder :) ) A tip for other people, unlink the core and shader, back off the core by a few mhz, and increase the shader :P

BobFahey
guys, please tell me what driver should I use for best performance???I`m having Dell Vostro 1400 (C540L1ADAW) Celeron 1.86GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HDD, GF8400M GS and what is better on your mind XPpro SP2 or XPpro SP3 ? I've had SP3 loaded for a couple of months now, and I've got a ton of crap applications on my system and it's running OK. With that 8400M GS, I don't think you are going to see much difference in any drivers. Pick which ever one you want based on what some of the other users have posted. Hi .. can somebody confirm that 169.04 is actually the driver version nv4_disp 6.14.11.6904. Just a little curious as Nvidia released this driver in Oct 07 and I am surprised that none of the later driver versions perform better that that on an 8400m gs. Thanks Wrishi GPUZ.bmp

I've been playing with various drivers and so far am loving the 174.74 in WinXP. If you use the Dell OEM INF then it will let you overclock, which has not been an issue for me yet. Here are the results of the test that I ran yesterday using stock 3dmark06 settings.
Guest Andre
I've got a Vostro 1510, should I also use the original inf file to overclock my VGA? And what about if i use the 169.04's inf file...will it work with the newest drivers?

Stavrov
I've used many drivers for my XPS 1530 with GeForce 8400M GS 128MB DDR3 but it seems that the official dell drivers are the best. I was testing with 3DMark06 at 1280 x 800 and I got these results driver 3DMark06 result driver from 180.70 1258 laptopvideo2go.com 179.13 1563 laptopvideo2go.com 176.44 1613 DELL Oficial web site 174.74 1545 laptopvideo2go.com 169.04 1485 laptopvideo2go.com But I can't over clock with none of these drivers, I don't know why. Make sure that you are plugged in to AC and not running on battery, that can cause this behavior. Also try using the beta 4 version of AtiTuner if you are running Vista. The 169.04 or 169.09 drivers should open this capability if the Dell official drivers will not work. I don't know what to suggest beyond that. Guest Guest
hi all - just a quick one, all i want to do is play WoW and try to keep the temp down - the 180's seem to pump hot air out of the fan and the post above me recommends the dox driver - is this one of the best drivers for this application? the lappy i got is an Advent 5401 running the Geforce 8400m GS im not looking for maximum fps just an improvement over the stock drivers and a cool running temp for long play :) thank you
