I dunno if this topic has already been run down but....I just recently bought an Alienware m5500 and I was wondering what the most powerful card was that would actually work on it would be...

Awesome, how much do you sell that card for. And what ATI options do I have. I was also wondering. Whist playing some games right now. I see all the textures in game go all rainbow and multi coloured before my laptop freezes and requires a restart. Does that mean the card is shot or I just need better cooling?

No ATI options I'm afraid.

Regarding cooling: check out the temp with Rivatuner if you currently have an nvidia card.

Price depends a bit on location. 250 euro in the EU, 225 in the US. For other countries I have to check.

I'm curious if a 8600 would work? I assume it's still the type II. Has anyone taken a look at it?

As Ice-Tea is quiet, I'll comment that at least I haven't seen anyone to have success updating from 7.x to 8.x .

I heard that the ATI x1600 was compatible with the 5500. How does it stack up to the Go 7600 though?

It was moderately faster than the 6800 but slower than the 7600. The 7600 is the best MXM card for those Uniwill 259 clones.
