Overclocking my 8600M GT

Hi,

I recently bought a dell Inspiron 1720 with the following specs:

Intel Core 2 duo t7500 2.2ghz

Dual channel 2GB 667MHz DDR2

Geforce 8600m GT 256mb DDR2

Vista Premium 32bit

And currently running on the 169.01 drivers

With 3dmark06 now getting 3445 points.

I've read some topics here and there about OC but im not sure yet wich method i will try.

Which app suits best, Riva or ATI?

Is it wise to flash my vBIOS after the OC (for stability or anything?)

I hope some1 can help me out.

Thanks in advance!

Grtz

If i was you i would follow these steps in order :

- Uninstall current NVIDIA driver

- Install 158.45 driver

- Follow this guide http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1060

- Once you've achieved stable overclocked frequencies, you may proceed to next step

- Uninstall 158.45 driver

- Install any newer driver that you want (i recommend 169.04 beta)

- Install RivaTuner 2.06

- Set your overclocked frequencies and make them load with windows

This is what i did and i've got a rock solid overclock with over 4300 marks in 3D Mark 06.

I wouldn't personally recommend flashing your vBIOS as RivaTuner does a great job setting the frequencies on windows startup.

ok, sounds good.

Rivatuner doesnt need the 158.45 driver for OC?

Does it make any difference that i test the clocked frequencies stable on the 158.45 driver but then go to the 169.xx ones?

Thnx for the help!

RivaTuner 2.06 works with 16x.xx drivers.

I recommend testing with 158.45 because ATI Tool doesn't seem to work properly with 16x.xx drivers.

its working now with atitool 0.27b2

standard the vcard shows 475/400 with 3d view round 61 degrees

till how far did you clock?

//edit

after clocking to 600/480 on 67 degrees.

How much degrees can a card take in a laptop?

I ran 3dmark06 and got +\- 4100 points so the clocking works for me!

After that i installed the 169.01 driver and tried the same clocking with riva 2.05 and 2.06 but after pressing the OK button it goes back to default settings.

There is also no "test" button.

Is this a driver problem or am i doing something wrong?
