Nvidia GeForce 8700m GT and Bioshock

Hello and Verry Happy Merry KwanzaChristmakkah! I have recently tried updating to a few drivers for running Bioshock on a Toshiba Satellite X-205 running 2gb RAM, Intel Centrino Duo and the above graphics card. The CPU came with an advertised sticker showing Bioshock, stating it was set up to run such games. Well, when Bioshock was released, the driver was insufficient to run the game since before its release it continued to evolve beyond the release of the computer. Nvidia as we all know has not released a driver since 6/6/07 that is compatible with the 8700m series. Toshiba is supposed to be on top of that and release drivers for it's graphics card but to date has nothing newer than the generic one released by Nvidia. My question is concerning a hint towards running a better driver that would at the very least enable the game to run. I installed a few drivers from this site but so far no luck. In fact, the game crashes now at its inception after the load screen where as before I made it to the initial movie of the guy on the airplane for those who have seen it. basically, it crashes at the difficulty selection screen. It plays the startup movie but the first time you need to interact it shuts down. I've also run Hellgate:London and Call of Duty 2 and The Witcher and have had issues with them not runninggreat either. My assumption is it's a driver issue and even after self tweaking the card to all the lowest possible settings including turning off anti-aliasing and related stuff, nothing helps. This system beats the recommended system requirements on all of these games, but barely runs them at the lowest settings. I understand it's on the lower end of decent notebooks for gaming but it's hardware should still be running these games at optimal quality without depriving the game of performance. To date: not so much. I have looked for hours and even enlisted the aid of my girlfriend who quit on me and told me I should date my graphics card if I was so inclined to spend time with it. I told her it needed fixing and she didn't, but that didn't help so now it's me and my card. And the card is forsaking me still. ANY suggestions would be most greatly appreciated!!

Actually the 8700M GT is by no means a low-end card...

As for the drivers, maybe you should make sure you are uninstalling the previous drivers first.

On a final note, try those drivers from 163.69 and up. Those should work well with Bioshock.

Thank you! I will try that.

i have the same problem.... i bought the original Bioshock and it crashes at the same point.... after the initial movie...

Okay the 16x.xx drivers are officially god sends! The games Bioshock and The Witcher work very well now. Not what this computer says they should perform at but still, they run and decently so. My issue now is frame rate. I'm hitting large scenes and according to Fraps I'm running at about 40 FPS during slow stuff and down to a heart attacking 10-15 when lots of things are happening. I leave for Iraq January 8th so I'm hoping to fix that issue as well here soon. Drivers: good. FPS: bad. Any more suggestions? I have rivatuner installed and it didn't really help.
