Conclusion :

The 171.16 Drivers are the best drivers for Overclocking so far.

Notes :

The 169.04 Drivers are really good. They can be O/C'd, and have a very good gaming performance, like you can see.

I'll try to go up to 4500 3DMarks in default, by Overclocking my laptop to the limits.

All right, i tried the 169.09 Drivers, they are absolutely horrible, can't even OC it ! I started 3DMark, ans saw that my FPS was like 7 at the beginning, with the .04, i got 27 !

Tried the .02, they suck too. Still searching...

18/01/08:

Just downloaded the 171.16 Drivers, and guess what ? Damn they rock ! Can be Overclocked too, and got 10 more 3DMarks ! Yeehaah ! :)

And now, tested with ReadyBoost, and it boosted up my scores with 15 points ! Yey, broke the 4400+ line :P

19/01/08:

Went back to the 169.28 Drivers to test them. Can be Overclocked, but they suck. -51 3DMarks compared to 171.16 :P

Tryed the Drivers .28 with and without ReadyBoost, the score changed only by one.... No comment. PS: I'm going back to 171.16 !

I'm updating this thread all the time to find the best available drivers for Overclocking, so come back soon for new updates.

For any questions, i'm here

PS: I love that banana guy dancing :)

Thanks for the recomendation Hoffa. The .04 driver is amazing, great stuff. Now i can overclock up to 650/480. I would like to clock the memory more but if i do so it crashes. Any advice .Im using Ntune coz it lets me overclock n keeps it that way unlike rivatuner. Lets keep this thread goin. Cheers

Also, i can't seem to OC on riva tuner 2.06 but only able to with ntune (xp version) but i am using vista...i tried the ntune 6.0 beta but does not seem to be able to OC too..what's the problem with my lappy?

Guest Labassim

Hi ,

I was trying the forceware drivers 171.16 on my dell inspiron (Geforce 8600M GT ,Core Duo T7500 ,2Go ram) and i wanted to submit my results on benchmark :

3D mark 2006:4070

3D mark 2005:7253

The Geforce is overclocked at 580Mhz/460Mhz .

Just to take an idea about the huge difference between those drivers and the drivers initially provided with my computer (forceware 156.55) ,

with the original old drivers i got :

3D mark 2005:5726

3D mark 2006:3352

After overclocking the chipset to 620Mhz/475Mhz (which is highest stable core clock speed for me i suppose) i got :

3D mark 2006:4322

3D mark 2005:8031

(GPU temperature is around 60° when i play which is quite high)..

Bye

Nice, almost 5000 Points in 3DMark 06!

With my 265MB GeForce 8600M GT (DDR2) i get around 4300 Points in 3DMark 06 at 600/500Mhz and v169.28.

I was wondering about one thing: your core speed was much higher oced than the core speed? What is more important?

And another question, what are the speed differences form the 512MB and the 265MB-Versions?

hello guys!

my laptop: Intel core2duo T7500 2.2 GHz

Nvidia GeForce Go 8600M GT SLI 512MB VRAM

2 GB DDR2 RAM

My results: 3D Mark 06: !! 7063 !! points *proud* ( 171.14 Driver) ---and yes, these results come from 3d mark 06^^

>>>My question: I only try this new driver, everyting works fine, but the gaming performance is bad! Whats the best Driver for my GPU so far to get the fuckin' best

gaming-experience??? should i try to overclock my Pc? don't forget: i have a laptop- is this very different to a tower?

which (simple) programme could you recommend?

I have the same laptop(Acer 5920G) but with 256 VRam(DDR2) instead 512 that you have.I have 171.16 drivers installed so i would like to know the optimal clock speeds of my card. Thanks in advance

Hm... i would say 620Mhz/475Mhz is the fastest option, but keep carefully! Laptop-overclocking could be very bad foryou system, and the hardware could rather be damaged ! (and: i use vista ready boost 1.9 GB---i don't know if that helps much , but i only want to say it^^ AND: m lapto has 2 air systems, so if you have only one, your hardware could become hotter, which is not so good-especially for a laptop

Hey, im new here but own a MSI GX600P, specs:

T7250 2.0Ghz 2Mb Cache 800Mhz FBS

2x 1Gb ram 533/667Mhz (not sure)

Nvidia Geforce 8600m GT 512Mb DDR2 (171.16 Driver)

250Gb 5400rpm Hard-Disk

There is a turbo option on my notebook that gives a 20% increase on: processor 2.4ghz, fbs to 950mhz.

I also overclocked my videocard, its an 8600m gt 512mb ddr2 memory by MSI.

Stock values are: core: 475mz, and memory: 400mhz (ddr2 = 800mhz)

I overclocked it to the following:

core:756Mhz and memory:486Mhz (ddr = 972mhz) Faster than 8700m gt

Standard my notebook gets 3800 points in 3dmark06, but now i get 5588 points in 3dmark06.(1024x768)

This notebook was not to expensive and with eye for the future, i still have 1 pcie slot empty. So meaby in a year/half year im gonna upgrade my laptop to 4gb ram, 2gb intel turbo memory and maybe a new processor with larger cache, but thats not nessacery yet.

The videocard runs stable, never failed on me so... and after 3 hours of gaming the max temprature was around 75 degrees celcuis, but i dont realy game for long times on my laptop. Got my 360 for that...

Ok guys, after several hours of troubleshooting, i finally installed XP on my 5920G. So now i have a XP-Vista Dual Boot :)

I'm trying some drivers on XP, so i can see if there is a huge performance difference between Vista and XP.

Hey folks finally mustered some courage to OC my Dell Inspiron (T5250 @ 1.5Ghz, 2GB DDR2 667,160GB 5400RPM HDD, Win XP, 8600mGT DDR2)

3DMark 06:

Using v163.16 drivers (stock speeds 475 core/400 Mem): 3382

OC wasn't possible

Grabbed the 171.16 drivers(stock speeds): 3587

OC'd speeds: 630 core/505 mem(any higher than 640 would give artifacts, so to give a comfortable margin, set it to 630): 4396

Temps: Peak 66 deg. Note that I'm not using any cooling pads as such
