melon
i'm still don't know why, it's beacause hardware or software problems? if that software problem, perhaps form the VGA drivers itself, maybe it's not compatible or suitable for my cardNow i use 180.70, What is your room temp? Some people live in tropical country and some live in sub-tropical. For me, my temp never goes above 80. Average in gaming is 76C. I live in a very hot country but I play in a conditioned room (25C says my AC). So check your room temp. 90+ I think quite unhealthy for your lappy. It may not damage your card instantly. But it'll for sure reduce its lifetime. Also all component nearby (i.e. battery) can be affected as well. Note: driver will have minimum effect on your GPU temp. In my case, max 5C diff. In my case, max 5C diff. we have same country, and play only in a conditioned room with NB Cooling pad, but it's not help. Yesterday after play crysis about 4 hours, my temp goes 101C (thats my temp record), I used 180.70 driver without overclock. Some people said in this forum that i must go back to older driver, like 169.xx. Is that true?
zipper
It's trial and error, every driver behaves a little different. Underclocking is also a possibility.
Beertaker
i tried dox 180.70 game crashes all the time with or without overclocking, ive tested a lot of drivers and 178.13 is the best so far Do you guys use Windows XP? I have Dox 180.84 now, but I can't run GTA IV on a higher resolution than 1024x768 at all. Or is 180.84 certainly better than 178.13? Beertaker
Why not, I can run every new game on at least 1280x800, so it anoys me that GTA IV can't.
zipper
Probably using XP does help.
Gible
Love those results. Im running a zepto 6324w Intel T7250, 2.0 ghz, 4gb ram and a 8600m GT 512 mb on WinXP x64. Very much the same as you, however, using the newest standard driver from the nvidia.com site, I get only around 8k in 3DMark03. Can anybody guide me to get some improvements? Guest philxx
Hello everybody, as the current driver for this card that nvidia offers on their homepage is the 179.28 I wondered if anybody knows whether it is worth to upgrade to a later driver? I'm using that one, slightly overclocked with Riva. Is it promising to upgrade to the 18x series to get significant improvement?

You may run 3D Mark 06 to see the results and than try Dox`s Optomised 181.20 http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....showtopic=22670 and share the results "before and after" with us :)

However, let me ask one stupid question - sorry in advance. In on of the tutorials it's been stated to uninstall your current driver before installing another one. ... Hmm, how does my 8600m gt work in the meantime while no driver is installed? Is it running in default vga mode or something? Sound like changing my tyres while driving... :)

Guest philxx
Yes. Okay, here are my figures with 3DMark06: Each configuration tested at least three times, numbers are average of these runs. 179.28 (as provided by Nvidia): 3DMarkScore: 4253 SM 2.0: 1711 SM 3.0: 1576 185.20 (from here): 3DMarkScore: 4225 SM 2.0: 1716 SM 3.0: 1551 181.20 Dox opt: 3DMarkScore: 4009 SM 2.0: 1612 SM 3.0: 1465 So, consequently I rolled back to 179.28. The Dox opt is in my case a definite no-go. And the restore from sleep doesn't work with either modded ones. BTW my specs are Vista 32 bit, Acer Aspire 5920, 2,4 Ghz, 8600m GT, 512 VRam, 3GB Ram GPU clock set to 540/1080 Mhz. Greetz

Notes : The 169.04 Drivers are really good. They can be O/C'd, and have a very good gaming performance, like you can see. I'll try to go up to 4500 3DMarks in default, by Overclocking my laptop to the limits. All right, i tried the 169.09 Drivers, they are absolutely horrible, can't even OC it ! I started 3DMark, ans saw that my FPS was like 7 at the beginning, with the .04, i got 27 ! Tried the .02, they suck too. Still searching... 18/01/08: Just downloaded the 171.16 Drivers, and guess what ? Damn they rock ! Can be Overclocked too, and got 10 more 3DMarks ! Yeehaah ! :) And now, tested with ReadyBoost, and it boosted up my scores with 15 points ! Yey, broke the 4400+ line :P 19/01/08: Went back to the 169.28 Drivers to test them. Can be Overclocked, but they suck. -51 3DMarks compared to 171.16  Tryed the Drivers .28 with and without ReadyBoost, the score changed only by one.... No comment. PS: I'm going back to 171.16 ! I'm updating this thread all the time to find the best available drivers for Overclocking, so come back soon for new updates. For any questions, i'm here :w00t: PS: I love that banana guy dancing :) I'm sorry, but how can you make a comparison between tests done on the different drivers, while some are overclocked one way, some are overclocked the other way and some arn't even overclocked.. How about you make one part for no overclocking at all, post results, then one with a certain overclock etc?.. >.<
