Go 6800 core / memory clock issue

Hi, I've had an Alienware Area-51 m7700 with a Go 6800 in it for a number of years now. Just recently I've had a major slowdown problem in games that use to run well. I've tried upgrading the drivers to the new 169.28 but without success.

I read on the nVidia forums that some peps were having heat issues on their laptops causing the slowdown. So I downloaded RivaTuner to have a look. Other than that I found I couldn't get a heat reading from the card, I notice a worrying side issue. Under the 3D performance setting my memory is clocked at 1000 mhz (according to RivaTuner). That sound incredibly high to me and it a little worrying. Thought it was supposed to be 300(core)/500(memory).

Has my card been accidentally overclocked? or is it just me being confused?

Hmmm, I ran RivaTuners performance monitor while playing some Counter Strike Source. For some reason its switching to Low Power 3D setting after a while (dropping my core clock to 200). Anyone know how to stop it doing this?
