Acer Aspire 5520-7416 MXM II 8600GT?

Hello,

I installed an ASUS 8600gt in my 5520 just now..

I get the error:

MXM structure not found or invalid.

Reflash MXM rom or add MXM structure ans associated callbacks to SBIOS!

Post halted performance limited until resolved...

I can not start the O/S..

I can now see 512mb of video ram.. (not 128 from the 8400m)

The 8400 cooler fits the new card better!!! It was made for this application no dought.

I am on the search for a fix...

Anyone have any advice for me???

Thanks in advance,

Tony

No flies on you! I still haven't got a reply from the numerous emails to supposed Acer parts suppliers...

I recall a post that noted a number of reboots were required before an mxm upgrade worked - sounds a bit "stand on one foot whilst rebooting" but might be worth a try.

A few questions:

Can you access the bios menu?

Does the POST halt - or does Vista start loading then fail?

In the 5920g posts, people had expectations that they might need to flash the vbios with 5920g 8600m card's vbios (vbios was available online from memory - I'll see if I can dredge the link up). However if you can't compete POST, pretty hard to flash from your machine...

An alternative route - if a willing C90s owner has their ears on, maybe they would be willing to flash the card for you with the Acer 8600m BIOS.

The unit tries to load vista, so I am assuming I can flash the "ACER 8600m gt 512mb bios" I just found..

Yes. Bios now reads 512 in the memory area (not 128 anymore!)

Will try this tomorrow after work..

Thanks for your reply..and help..

Adapter Geforce 8600m GT (10DE,0407,1025,0126) H:NRM B:02,PCI,D:00,F:00

warning: firmware image pci subsystem id (1025.0121)

does not match adapter pci subsystem id (1025.0126)

warning firmware image board id (8412) does not match adapter board id (8419)

error: pci subsystem id mismatch

the original info from the new (Asus) card

version 60.84.65.00.a1

I tried two different bios.. one 8600gt 070423 and one 8600gs 070711..

I am in over my head here forward.

Hey Tony,

Probably *not* the best option to allow nvflash to ignore these differences using overridesub in this case.

Looking at

http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....art=#entry37918

they suggest that these id's might need to be changed in the vbios file before you flash it to the device. I believe that the IDs you listed can be changed in the vbios file using the tool "NiBiTor" - in the "Adv. Info" tab under ver 3.7 of the tool (btw you might need to change from the default *.rom to *.bin when opening the file).

Before flashing I suggest making a backup of the vbios already on the card - however I guess it goes without saying that you could well brick the card at this point and leave it unusable anyhow... :)

Good luck

Yep that's the 512MB one they have.

:) I'm obviously not going the original Acer path now - but the Acer SKUs I found that were likely candidates (turning up with 4520g and 5920g references in various places) are VG.8PG06.001 or VG.8PG06.002. I found the later SKU on a picture of a 5920g opened up on a Russian site (http://www.ferra.ru/online/mobilis/s27047/page-3/). The vbios probably comes from the VG.8PG06.001 version...

Now do you get the DDR3 card??

So does this mean that the VBIOS of future mxm cards need to be flashed before it can be used? Strange, I thought that MXM cards need not to be flashed...

It depends on vendors card. If you want to put Asus 8600m gt to Acer you have to flash with Acer 8600m GT vbios

If this is so, If Acer has not published that specific card, then it'd be impossible to use the card from another vendor then? Or is there a way to edit the vbios?

i have not tried it but i think he did it this way

1. download hp boot key and create a bootable usb

2. download nvflash

3. download 8600M GT bios

4. extract nvflash to root drive of flash drive, copy also the bios in the root drive

5. restart pc and in bios set flash drive as boot drive (F12 key usually)

6. on command prompt type "nvflash -b backup.rom', now you have a backup bios file named backup.rom

7. on command prompt type "nvflash Acer.8600MGT.512.070423.bin -4 -5 -6", wait for it dont touch nothin till it finishes up

good luck

*

nvflash -p -u -f backup.rom'

-4 = bypass board id mismatch (I think)

-5 = bypass device id mismatch

-6 = bypass subsystem id mismatch

Hello,

First of all, thank you for your attention because it's very hard to find somebody with positive mind about my specificate situation...

So, the video card is a HD 2300 apparently it's a mxm II like the asus c90 8600 m gt that i have bought on ebay. the notebook is a acer 5720 and what we want do with my son it's swap the hd 2300 by the 8600m gt. But if i can make unscrew/screw by somebody it's very very hard to make the complete operation. So i ask if i send you the card if you are ok (with gift in order to pay your time) to falsh it in acer mode (bios). Now, if you don't want there is no matter i will understand but you will lose a terrible figther under COD4 !!! :)
