Madness? THIS IS VISTA!

Ok soo...

Vista Ultimate (32)

Nvidia 6800 go

I have basically been trying to figure this out for the past 6 hours:

I have a copy of Vista installed and my card was defaulted to the drivers from microsoft which for the 6800 go are the WDDM ones. I have been using laptopvideo2go ever since I got my alienware which would make that 3-4 years now and never have I had this much trouble getting new drivers to run on this thing till today.

I uninstalled my display driver, booted up in safe mode, downloaded and ran driver sweeper, re booted up in safe and installed v167.45 drivers here with the modded inf, then restarted. I thought to myself well that was easy as it has always been... wrong.

My laptop only gets as far as the loading bar for vista. From there I see a black screen for about 30-40 seconds, followed by a black screen w/ vertical running white bars up and down the screen. The computer then crashes out, restarts, and prompts me to choose between safe mode, safe mode w/ networking... etc etc.

So I figure its bad install. I try it all again: uninstall, reboot into safe mode, clean, reboot into safe mode, install, restart into normal. Same problem. I have tried this with a number of Vista 32 drives and all have gotten me the same results. What is worse is I cant even get vista to recognize the card now. When I uninstall it and reboot and then scan my hardware the display comes up as the "standard vga graphics adapter."

Is there something I am missing here?? :)

Here is a list of drivers I have tried (all with there respective modded infs):

169.09

165.01

163.75

163.71

Also sorry for not posting this under a user name.

Why do you love complicated things? I simply dloaded 156.87 (still the best for laptops IMHO) and installed it: automatically uninstalled old ones and installed new. Rebooted. All right, as always.

I've done this 10 or more times since I have my new laptop with Vista Home Basic and never had a problem... :)

I'm afraid your move «ran driver sweeper» in safe mode (?) messed up something, seriously...

the inf's were not made for the go cards below the 7x series. 156.87 is the highest one from LV2G.cheers
