HP 8600M GS

I have a HP Pavilion 9790 laptop with HP 8600M GS 512mb DDR2 Video Adapter. I have managed to get hold of a Acer.8600MGS.512.070711_1.bin DDR2 Video BIOS update which is set to higher clock speeds etc.

My question is is how do I update my Video card BIOS, as I can t seem to find a utility to do this. And is it safe to do so considering they are the same model card, just Acer has higher clock and shader settings.

do not update bios with different manufacturer, it will not work, if you want higher clocks use nbitor and nvflash

ok thanks for the tip. only problem I have is Nbitor doesnt have 8600m gs only 8400 gs and Nvflash only works in DOS and I do not have a floppy drive to copy my BIOS then reupload it, I can create a dos CD but won t be able to write the copy to my CD. Never Mind really annoying you can t overclock HP 8600m GS, NVtune or rivatune do not work, just resets to default settings on Vista

if you want to overclock use 169.04, its the only driver that can overclock 8600 and 8400 series

thanks for the tips, worked a treat, just hopeing now someone can discover the secret in the 169.04 drivers, so we can mod the latest drivers for Nvidia HP 8600M 512MB to be overclocked. :) (without modding the BIOS)

A note for HP Nvidia Notebooks Vista Users only,

if you use XP I am afraid you have to mod your own inf

you need to copy this inf into install directory overwrihting the one already in there, otherwise new drivers will not install. once done then run the setup.exe as normal

I have added to enable install on HP Nvidia cards below

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150"

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 "

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 "

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100"

"NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M"

"NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M"

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200"

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300"

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400"

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 "

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600"

"NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 "

"NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS"

"NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS "

Please don't link homebrewn, untested 3rd party INFs from our forums. People might be tempted to download in order to get help and will run into problems as nobody ever tested those INFs.

I have tested them and they work fine.

1 out of 100 users is not enough. If you want more people to test the INF and consider it working we can open a dedicated thread for this INF here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=10
