jora
Acer 4520G has a not good quality GPU--8400M G. Yesterday I received a Nvidia 8600M GS MXM card form ebay. Ha...ebay sells everything :) Link I successfuly upgraded my latop GPU Card to 8600M GS. The progress is very easy. Now I can play "Need for Speed 11" and new game "Grid", felt life is good. :) Edited June 13, 2008 by jora

Guest Guest
Verry Nice, Can you tell me what laptop model you have? i'm planning to upgrade mine (not sure if it has MXM :[) and i have 8400M G (256MB) too As i told before: An 8400M G (256MB & "Up to 1024MB TurboCache) Yes, it sucks arse. Assassins' Creed barely runs playable on 640x400 (or something like that) EVERYTHING on LOW! So thats why i want to upgrade this little piece of s***, so i can play good games at decent quality, not having to play with AV on my TV so i can't realy see the low res.. The 8600M GS I got is with Acer Nvidia Bios, I think you don't need to mod anything. Just plug in. Could you tell me your 8400M G BIOS version? You can check it by runnning "EVEREST". http://www.lavalys.com/

DanKem
I also recently upgraded my 4520G from 8400m g to 8600m GT, not GS. Performance is superb. I bought it from China for $110.

There are so many kind of prices for made-in-China products. I even heard 8600 charged for US$3~50. Obviously, I don't wanna risk buying it. The technical people in southern China is good at reparing out-of-order products. As for myself, I still like made in Taiwan brand new products. Mine was brand new, sealed in a box. It is made in Taiwan, but I bought it while I was in China. :) I guess the price would be even lower if one ordered a larger quantity.
