Hi,

Im kinda new to the insides of a laptop but am very good with desktop insides. I noticed that some people have tried to put a nVIDIA GeForce 8600MGS video card into a m5500 alienware. Now I googled around and a couple of people say it can work, just want to know where I can look up how to do this?

Sorry for the bad english.

Thank You

Ok, this is what I found.

On the bottom of my laptop says m5500i-r3 series on it. But my invoice says in my hive says

AREA-51 M5550.

Not sure what one is mine under the uniwill.com website though?.

I booted into my bios and it says its a m5500i-r3. Does them seem right ?

Thank You

Same as mine!

check out http://www.uniwill.com/products/performanc...hp?HL=2&P=3

Does it look the same? Pay attention to the Wireless-on/off switch on the front... and other unique stuff that your notebook and this uniwill have in common!

Yep that looks like it. I called alienware and they told me my motherboard is a uniwell p531a. and that it is a m5550. I asked why the difference in number from my bios and said was upgraded to m5550.

Thanks

It works, i have an alienware m5500 with a nvidia 8600m gs newly installed (i had an ati x700 previously). NO modifications necessary and the heat output is about the same, which doesnt say much for ati's product. By the way, theres a thread created by me from a week or to ago and its regarding this EXACT topic!

I managed to buy an 1800x for cheap so I decide to go with that. I should have it by the end of this week.
