wook
174.74 is the best for the 1530. Use this link: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....showtopic=18049 download driver, and modified INF file. extract the driver to a foler ''174.74_vista" then copy the modified inf file to that folder. overwrite the existing inf file. run setup. done! Don't try other ones like 177.24 as they will add nasty heat issues to your system.
BMWM3E30
I've got the same exact laptop, and im using 174.31, and no problems for several months now... And with 174.31, i didnt need the modded inf. Edited June 15, 2008 by BMWM3E30
wook
Have tried 174.74? It?s pretty good. Runs the coolest for its performance. So can basically overclock it more, and get better performance compared to other 174 versions

Voloscire
The 8600GT - 174.74 or 174.31 also mentioned above. Try those. Hey wook, sorry if i'm being too lame, but I need some help. I have a 8600M GT as well, in my MSI GX700-007NL, and have been searching over the internet for a week now.. But can't seem to find anything. Now I really know nothing of drivers and all, therfore I ask your help:). Can you point out what driver is best for me to use to play games (like Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, etc.)? It probably is the driver above ^^^^ for the other members, but I want to make sure. Thanks in advance!! EDIT: I searched my driverversion with Run-> dxdiag, and I found this one: 7.15.0011.6726 (English) I really messed up my drivers late 2007, so it wouldn't surprise me this Driver really takes down my videocard potential. -Voloscire Edited June 17, 2008 by Voloscire
wook
hmmm 175.80 may be better for that. I have read that COD4 crashes sometimes on .74 But try it out first as i'm a big fanof 174.74. Before you install the new drivers, do this: 1) uninstall the current driver 2) restart into "safe mode" 3) run driver sweeper and clean all nvidia files off your system 4) restart in "normal mode" 4) install new driver, using the modified .inf etc 5) restart This will clean out of 167.26 driver, making sure you are using every dynamic library file of 174.74 (or the driver of your choice) Will also enable youto over clock your card if you so feel the need. if you have any questions about installing the driver and inf file etc look at the FAQ section of this site.. or just ask and i'll post a reply stating it. good luck.. let me know how it goes. Vern
Wook, the man in the know. I have installed 169.09 with modded inf and had really bad frame rates in Gears of War. Tried to overclock a bit and still had really bad juddering. (Vista 32bit) After installing the standard drivers, downloaded from Dell, it was absolutely fine. Played assassins creed, and runs beautifully, on all medium settings. The question I have is, are there any driverst that would give me performance increase other than the dell standard... and that will not cauuse Gears of war to judder? My tems range from Ideling at 60c to about 77c while gaming... is this ok? Looking forward to you reply... or anyone's with comments. Thanks

Thanks I read that the XPS M1530, like my own laptop, use the same heatpipe for the CPU and the GPU. I saw temps around 60~65 when idle, and up to ~85°C when gaming, so AFAIK it's ok... Can't help with your other question, though.
wook
77 Oc would be fine. XPS series laptops from Dell run very hot. 90 Oc seems to be their max (but still fine to run @ that) Ok.. basically i have not got a definitive answer for you. sorry. all new drivers are configured to run new games. all older drivers are set to run older games.. (as time compaires) So what i mean is that 169 might solve these issues. maybe even back to 158.36?? what version are you currently running? you might want to stick with that, and try and overclock a bit more.. Have played gears of war with 174.74 and had the same stuttering issue you mention. Soo.. i'd leave that one. If you do want to try new drivers: 175.13, 175.63 or 75.80. Try those three as they are the best of the 175 range, but as i said earlier they are a few months old (or new rather) and probably wont fix this issue. Hope this helps Edited June 23, 2008 by wook

Yeah the XPS uses an 'S' bend heat sink. that connects the GPU and CPU for the heat transfur. The fan cools both. So, if the cpu is running hot, the gpu will also.. visa versa. Key is to keep space between your laptop and the surface/ desk. Air circulation is key... or similarly buy a laptop cooler. I have one with 3 fans in it.. runs 3-4 Oc cooler than before. wook
As you know i have an XPS 1530.. You guys are all using visa-32 correct? I changed to XP Pro-32 yesterday after finally finding all the drivers and changing some BIOS settings so the hard drive will be detected by XP. let me know if you want me to post all links to drivers and write a 'what to do list'. (its running about 10% better for games, it all counts i guess) :)

Thabnks a lot... athe the 177.* drivers not for my system? going back to the GOW juddering.... do you think ots the powermizer acting up (downclocking and upclocking weirdly?) wook
well... they work ok. But as soon as i changed to those drivers on vista 32 they started down clocking my system. I think they run too hot. (because i overclock too) But they were good drivers other than that. It might be. Open up rivatuner hardware monitor. see what temps its doing when juttering occurs. so alt-tab the game when juttering starts, and see what the temp is. I dont think GOW ran too hot for my machine. Annoying hey, happens like every 2 mins. You could try and disable it in the registry, but i don't think its the issue. Use these settings: - Press the "window" key + R . This will lauch a command window. Type ((regedit)) then press OK. Step 2 - Now navigate to this registry. \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{**a series of numbers that are different**}\0000\PerfLevelSrc (remember to click on the plus to open all folders) Step 3- Find 'PerfLevelSrc' edit it by double clicking and changing the value data from 3333 to 3322. Click ok. Step 4- Find "PowerMizerEnable". Double click on PowerMizerEnable and change the value data from 1 to 0. This will disable Powermizer Step 5 - Find PowermizerLevel and change the value to 1 Step 6- Find PowermizerLevelAC and change value to 1 - Close and restart comp.
