williesteele
Hey Guys I recently bought an Acer Inspire 6920g with a t9300 core duo 2.5GHz penryn and a Nvidia 9500m GS 512mb. Ive been running 3dmark06, but I cant for the life of me get it over 3318 score at default settings(1280x1024). My cpu is doing fine at 2218 score, but the sm2.0 and HDR/sm3.0 seems very low at 1307 and 1171. When I look at other scores people are getting aroung 1400-1500 score with their 9500m gs and a total score of around 4000. So far I have tried 174.16, 174.51(stock), 174.93, 175.16, 175.80 and 177.35 and they all yeld the exact same score which also seems quite odd. Im running vista 32-bit ultimate with 4gb ram. I was hoping I could get some clarification from You guys on why my scores are much lower than what I see from worse/equal systems and identical gfx cards. I dont have a 3dmark score fetisch, so the number doesnt realy bother me. Its the thought of my system underperforming Im not too happy about. Hope someone with some insight can help me out. Cheers in advance. Edited June 21, 2008 by williesteele
Michael Marley
How well do your games run? Is there any stuttering or excessive jerkiness?
williesteele
Hmm Ive only tested Age of Conan which is kind of hard to evaluate since its quite bugged. Im getting between 15-55fps at 1366x768 aax2,view distance 2000m, 2.0 shader, medium texture and low particles. All other sliders are at max. Also getting the ocational 1 sec hick up when entering crowded/new areas. What I find wierd is that I get the exact same score in 3dmark no matter what driver I use. Shouldnt they show some diference in the score? Edited June 21, 2008 by williesteele
Michael Marley
I am not really sure what kind of framerates and 3dmark scores you should be getting, but those framerates do seem a bit low for a midrange card.
williesteele
Ive been reading other places and it seems my score is ok. I think it has something to do with my native resolution is widescreen. looking at this review http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=229282 of the asus m50sv, which has the exact same specs as my laptop it seems Im doing quite fine. asus m50sv(t9300 2.5GHz, nvidia 9500m gs, vista 32-bit) no overclocking sm 2.0: 1386 sm 3.0: 1304 cpu: 2263 total: 3580 My aspire 6290g(t9300 2.5GHz, nvidia 9500m gs, vista 32-bit) no overclocking sm 2.0: 1501 sm 3.0: 1420 cpu: 2292 total: 3862 The asus gets 3580 at 1280x720 while Im getting 3862 at 1280x720. I guess my conclusion has to be that 3dmark is an epeen tool above anything else and that You realy cant use those scores for evaluating general performance since they vary so much even with the same specs. williesteele
Just an oc result with 1280x720(460/600/1200) 169.09(only one that lets me oc) sm 2.0: 1738 sm 3.0: 1667 cpu: 2299 total: 4429

Shouldnt they show some diference in the score? yeah it is a little weird, i've been messing around with AC and battery and different drivers, and different clock speeds and temps lately it sounds like your 9500m GS is defaulting to 'low power 3d' mode, bringing the clock speed down 200mhz, from 475, to 275. at least thats what was happening to me on my asus m50sv-a1 i did the disable powermizer trick they posted on here, (i'm not good at posting links) which allowed me to have a strict full speed for the vid card while plugged in, and or while on battery. these suckers are crazy overclockers i just hit 686mhz core stable. however, seems the memory doesn't like to clock up too high, i was running into issues after 540mhz... i'm sitting at 522 right now 1044mhz effective. hella nice according to HWmonitor 1.09 and GPUz 2.4 temps on load are 66-72C idle 60-61C i took the back plate off the asus and immediately all my temps went down like 6C, and i have a little laptop cooler pad with 2x 60mm fans, turn them on, and my temps drop to 59C load.!! woo and the cpu gets way cooler too, back off and fans on, drops 12-14C i was full 100% load autoGK xvid encoding at 47C!! sweet. time to mess around see if i can't find a way to make it better all the time. cheers Edited July 1, 2008 by Urbanos
