cyclone93
i have a pavilion dv9646em with a 8400m gs running on windows vista ultimate 32bit, i am currently using the latest driver from the hp website, the driver is a massive 130mb compared to the 30mb driver from laptop video2go, im wondering if there are any better drivers out there that could make performance in games such as crysis and counter strike source faster :) :)
Michael Marley
If I were you, I would try out a 175.xx or 177.xx driver. These improve my performance somewhat.

Dox
ha! another halo 1 player ;D halo struggled on mobility radeon x1700. so im not surprise it lags on your card. its horribly unoptimized and therefore requires a powerful card to get good framerates. i good driver for it is 175.16. BUT halo will still run laggy. you could use the -use11 commandline to dumb down the graphics a bit for better FPS.
cyclone93
its stupid though coz halo ran really fast on 169.04 driver in windows xp but lags in vista on 177.41. stupid!! im using the latest manufacturer driver now 156.66 form hp :P :) :)
Andrew55
Out of all drivers for the 8400m gs, I will have to go with the 169.04 as well.

Michael Marley
Halo for PC probably was not optimized because they wanted everybody to buy it for the crappy Xbox thing.

Andrew55
gfx on pc version>> gfx on xbox. but once again, same story. Performance is lacking (not what is should be.)
cyclone93
oh man...well i found out a great driver for my card. the latest hp driver its even better than 169.09!
Andrew55
Hp drivers are more 'specialised' for you and therefore in some events results in best performance. However, drivers on this site still beat the acer released drivers
