Is 44.03 the fastest driver? Teraphy or Pieter's INF?

Not sure the best oneto to upgrade to for a geforce 440 64mb

tired Pieter's 44.68. Was very slow especially when bringing up the

NV control panel. USin 44.03 INF 1.00( Teraphy)

Doesn't remember color correction settings after a reboot.

Is 1.55 better or should I goto th 53.xx series, I think these are only for the Dell 8600 and above notebooks. I have the 8200.

Guest,

What version INF did you use for 44.68.

My older INFs had a PushBufferMemorySpace = 3 which caused slow scrolling (including very slow NV Control Panel)

I had to have this for 4x.xx and Gateway laptops as they would crash without it.

My newest INFS don't have PBMS set to 3 any more and the scrolling speed should be back to normal.

Hope this helps,

Pieter.

I tried 44.68 with ver 11.65 INF.

I see you have 11.67 now. When you click on Geforce 440 Go tab

the white door that swings out to the left of the control panel takes

up to ten seconds.

Will your new version make it swing out as fst as 44.03 does?

ANd do you still think 44.03 is the fasted driver for Dell 8200 notebooks?

Thank you Pieter

44.03 is fastest for DX8.1 games.

5x.xx are fastest for DX9 games.

The slow opening speed won't be fixed by 11.65

Does the scrolling of pages seem real slow as well ?

Try 47.12 with v12.00, there are quite a few changes to the INF.

Hope this helps,

Pieter.

I prefer to stick to a driver designed for use with the Dell not an HP.

Too many things could go wrong.

Since you have a Gateway your INFs possibly don't work well on Dell?

Can you clarify if Teraphy is the only one who writes INFs for Dells.

And is his INF for the 44.03 more suited for a Dell geforce 440 64mb than yours is. It's very risky installing and uninstallling drivers that fail.

When one does I have to reimage my system back to its original config in order to get the lst working driver back.

This is why I am so concerned.

Also do you know anyone that has success with the 53xx drivers on the Dell 8200? Remembers settings and TV out and VGA out works well. ANd profiles can be applied prob.

Thank Pieter.

- ONe more thing-- Has Teraphy died and gone to Driver Heaven?

He hasn't posted on his site since October.

I prefer to stick to a driver designed for use with the Dell not an HP.

Too many things could go wrong.

Lets clear up one myth, Detonatos/Forceware are NOT made for specific vendors.

nVidia makes updates to their drivers continuously (all are basicly beta).

The vendors (that can be bothered) will tell nVidia of any bugs, when certain bugs are fixed the vendor will release a Detonator.

So the driver gets bigger with each bug fixed.

When the vendor gets the new driver it adds the installation files for their machines.

This makes it very simple for nVidia as it doesn't have to worry about that, and can just keep pumping out updates.

So for any of you not too sure on using other vendors (released) drivers, it is quite safe.

My poor old Gateway is the first to be used as Guinea Pig to test them before they get uploaded.

If it got $1 for every install it would own nVidia by now.

Can you clarify if Teraphy is the only one who writes INFs for Dells.

And is his INF for the 44.03 more suited for a Dell geforce 440 64mb than yours is. It's very risky installing and uninstallling drivers that fail.

Teraphy makes seperate INFs for a lot of different laptops (about 20).

He mods INfs from original Dell or Official nVidia drivers.

So he'll have a special INF for Dells, Gateway Toshibas etc.

He does specialise in Dell (excuse me Teraphy if I got this wrong) as he owns one him self. (an i8100 I do believe).

Another myth blown away, my INFs are based on Dell settings, when you look closely at the settings they have been sucked out of the latest drivers Dell released.

So when you install my INF you are installing it with Dell setiings, then I add all the goodies on afterward.

Drivers can be slighty risky to install, usually only things out of my control, ie not uninstalling old driver first or people playing with things they have no idea about.

And is his INF for the 44.03 more suited for a Dell geforce 440 64mb than yours is. It's very risky installing and uninstallling drivers that fail.

When one does I have to reimage my system back to its original config in order to get the lst working driver back.

This is why I am so concerned.

My or Teraphy's INF are equally good for 44.03 as they are basicly identical except I add a lot more tweaks to my INFs.

If by chance a driver won't install, and it all turns to custard just reboot in safe mode and unistall from there. You could roll back the driver but it's much better to uninstall then just reinstall working drivers.

Instructions for this are on both websites.

And lastly, Teraphy is still alive, I noticed him having a look here yesterday.

Hopefully he'll be back with advice soon.

Hope that explains everything,

Pieter.

I'm here and alive. I guess you could say I needed a month hiatus from things and I hope you aren't overly swamped here, Pieter. I think you've done a superb job! :) I've almost forgotten quite a bit of this. As it all floods back in my head I'll see what I can do.

For my drivers I have basically collected OEM drivers and had a look see at what settings they used and essentially mimicked those values. So, if Dell would come out with a new driver the registry values would be fairly accurate as to what they used previously and as to what I used. I didn't want to end up with a huge INF file plus maintenance is easy since I wrote a program to write INFs for me. The only drawback is it can be a bit confusing.

Yes, I do own an 8100 and I might be gone for a few days since my hard drive is failing and I'll be replacing it -- thank goodness for 3 year warranties :)

Teraphy,

Welcome back, things havn't been too busy (luckily).

You be after a nice 60GB 7200RPM drive then, the least Dell can do, seeing the services you do for them here and and the Dell Forums.

Yeah, right. :) Dell wouldn't give me a bigger drive. Just perhaps one that will last a few years after my warranty gives out is all I'm hoping for! And it's only 4200rpm :P But check your Email I think we can arrange a surprise for everyone else :)

Teraphy,

I've checked my Email, but I see nothing but my wife spending lots of money on Auctions.

You've got me curious now.

Pity about the 4200 RPM drive, but better than nothing.

I also have a 30GB 4200RPM drive, it does pretty well considering.

Have you got the Application accerator from Intel, a good way turn on power saving function of HD.

Pieter.
