77 C idle temp on m1530

As I get into this overclocking and benchmarking world I've noticed people say their idle temps are around 65 C, however, mine is always around 77 C. I've also seen some posts saying while OC'ing your GPU it shouldn't go too far into the 80s C. Would that simply leave me with no room to OC (I've tested a few, but keep it at stock)?

Also a friend mentioned to me that the T8300 processors runs hotter than other processors. Is it possible that it runs a full 10 degrees hotter?

Thanks.

EDIT: I should add that I have a cooling pad and that the room the laptop sits in is also quite cool. Always on a desk, elevated by the battery, as well.

This seems quite hot for an idle speed. My 8600m GT seldom hits 75 when O/Ced to 600/1400/500. (With no laptop pad.)

even though i have the 2.4 not the 2.5 Ghz processor, mine bell curves from 55-65 Oc max.

Gaming its 75 Oc max.

(using a laptop cooler and the 9cell battery)

If you go above this temp. , then it would indicate that your laptop is not new anymore. Get an XPS techie to replace your motherboard. (this is what i would recomend)

or check the thermal paste/ pad for connectivity.

Well here is something interesting... I was using RivaTuner and ATITool to check my core temps while OC'ing. I just installed I8kfangui and it is showing my temps exactly as you all have yours. My idle dropped to 50 (according to I8kfangui) and when I was testing in 3dmark06 it peaked at 77. Could RivaTuner be misreading my core temp?

using gpu-z my idle temps are usually 63c, but it shifts sometimes from 57-66c... under load its anywhere from 83c-89c, with peaks up to 93c...

thats oced...

yeah it could well be. rivatuner misreads my core speed saying its @ 100 Mhz. so it could be misreading your temps.

Go into the BIOS and see what that says. Then you know what the real deal is.

haha no! i was to lazy to call again (the one day i did i was on the phone for 30 mins. WTH!)

i tried to chat with an xps specialist or w.e and he said "ohh the problem wasnt fixed with bios A09? i said no.

like he acted all surprised, then he said hold on i have to consult my boss on this matter, then he came came back and asked me some more questions then the chat just cut off, and i was soo pissed and too lazy to do it again... but i really want to... haha. maybe ill give it a try again soon...

haha... its their 'unofficial pollicy" to waste as much time as possible, hoping for users not to call back.

I hope it doesn't have to come to having it replaced. I need a laptop for school currently. :)

I installed the new A09 BIOS and it has dropped my idle temp to about 69-70 C (stock GPU speeds). That helps, maybe I will check the thermal paste as well... that could be another 3-4 degree.

I was able to run a 3dmark06 benchmark test using 177.92 driver and my temp still peaked to hit 91 C once (around 86-88 C 90% of the time). That is very hot considering there is zero overclock on this 8600m GT ddr3. I did however hit 4075 which I was kind of surprised with on stock settings.

That?s pretty hot. 3Dmark benchmark tools only run GPU's for 5 mins per cycle.. Then rest for a few seconds which allow it too cool considerably.

If that was me I would get it replaced. Remember that its an XPS... so they send a technician over to you. only took an hour from when he arrived, till when he left to get it up and running.

(mine has yet to hit 80 Oc)

for me gaming temps went down 1-2c and idle temps went down 3-4c with replaced thermal paste... i do suggest you do it though even if you dont see a DRASTIC change as ever little bit helps to extend your gpu's life, and its an easy process just make sure you do it right.

and yes i did notice dell's annoying little policy... haha.

but i think i will have to call them again soon and put that policy to use :/... hahaha

A Technician will be calling me in the next couple of days to setup a date to have the motherboard, heat sink, and fan replaced. It only took about one hour of telling the guy over the phone that I had literally tried everything and used every program to ensure accuracy. Hopefully the replacement works.

Hehe, I appreciate your enthusiasm, it gets me stoked. It will be like getting a whole new machine because I've always played on this one the way it is. I guess I need to download Crysis demo lolz.

well... I bought my machine brand new... temps were running mid 80's then suddenly shot up to 93 and would crash and restart etc..

After they replaced motherboard/ heatsink n fan... its sitting mid 70's.

Now i can overclock to 590core and 890mem. 50 Mhz more than before. Good times!!

Im expecting the same results for you.... but let me know. be interesting to get more feedback on this, as i think the motherboards have different 8600GT chips than the original ones purchased. (relating to the G84 defective chips)

The technician from Dell will be here in 30 minutes. That is pretty fast... I didn't expect a call until Monday. I'll have new temps posted later this morning/afternoon.

Okay, booted with A08 BIOS the first time to 58 C idle, just upgraded to A09 and I am sitting at 56 C idle. Wow, what an improvement. I recommend anyone who sees this thread and are trying to fix their hot m1530 to call DELL and get you motherboard, heat sink, and fan replaced! Thanks everyone.

  • 1 month later...

Thank god my card isnt defective, LG doesent have ppl that come to your house. I would be screwed to the max. You say you now have 56C idle, I have about 41-51 idle. Now wook says his never goes over 75 OC'd. But mines goes into a max of 82C, without oc. Why does my temps go higher. I know its not that high, but i would like to OC. Is it my lappys airflow?
