I dont know whats the best performance driver for my computer.

Alienware m7700

NV Geforce GO 7800 GTX

Desc:

I get choppy lag like it goes good and then it turns bad

then goes good and bad and so on, I cant even play a flash game without it lagging

and when It lags everything is slower, and its just nasty.

Please help?

Sorry i didnt take the time to register.

what is your current driver version?

Try 175.63. I recomend this as your card does not support PhysX.

If changing a driver does not help... try this

ok.... there is a registry fix for powermizer. But this is a lot easier and also works.

Download rivatuner.

go into RivaTuners power user tab

\NVIDIA\Overclocking\EnableLowPower3dControl

\NVIDIA\Overclocking\EnablePerfLevelForcing

-set the value to 1

Then go back to the overclocking tab,and activate the now revealed

Force Constant Performance Level command to performance 3D.

Go to the top right drop down box and select low power 3d mode, make sure to select enable driver level overclocking. Do this for both standard 2d and performance 3d.

A lot of people with your card seem to like the 177.79 drivers, but that was before the 177.92 came out.

@Micheal Intel Penntium 4 CPU (3.6 GHz), Windows XP Pro SP3

@Andrew Hmph, Ill try.

EDIT: Didnt help.

I forgot to add that right as I'm about to get bad FPS or choppy FPS, my sound spazzes out

as In like, it just spazzes out dont know how to explain its like DRRRRRRR

and then I get choppy FPS, that also happens when It's going to go back to normal smooth FPS

does the same thing.

Inform me what the correct term for my problem is.

Is it 'tearing?'

If so, nope Im still getting FPS Tearing.

If you're getting tearing then you should enable vsync in your nvidia control panel.

Oh.. I think its already Enabled.

EDIT:

Nope forcing it on doesnt help.

Should I explain my gameplay issue?

Alright so I start up CoD4

It runs smooth nice and fine,

I get into a game I play a bit

and then my sound spazzes

out, and then it becomes choppy,

like, everything is so laggy, and then

my sound spazzes out again, and

everything is smooth, and it just

goes in a cycle like that, sometimes

though it'll be choppy for a very long time

and then i just quit... it gets very annoying,

knowing that I have an Alienware with my

specs on the side, but when I had an old

Compaq I never got these issues,

everything was fine...

Well then you should try some older drivers (169.04). What game(s) are you getting this problem on?

CoD4

Warcraft III

CS 1.6...

Flash games...

@My old compaq.

I had a Radeon Card.

Real old, bought it in like 2k.

At this point all I can say is that this still looks like a driver problem. Have you installed the 169.04 yet?

Nope, I'll do it tomorrow, and thanks for all your help :)

I really appreciate it.

EDIT:

Was planning on dowload it.. tonight.

But its in the desktop branch?

Doesnt that mean its not for my laptop?

ok i did it and so far so good (with my old driver)

the new one doesnt work. it just gives me a black screen

No prob. Anyway, download it whenever you want, no rush. In terms of it being a desktop driver. All drivers originate being designed for desktops. OEM's and lv2go change the inf so it supports more gpus. So you should have no problem. This should not be a permanent solution, just seeing if it is a driver problem.

Ohkay, I'm going to download it now.

EDIT:

Installed it, dont have a black screen.

But my problem still persists.

When I first got my laptop, it wasnt an issue, but then later on, I reformatted, and I lost my Utility CD which had all my drivers

for my M7700 straight from the factory, and then I had to install all the drivers manually which was a pain in the butt, trying

to find a working 7800 GTX driver, and then the problem started, I dont know if I should reformat again, or something..

but it began, when I reformatted.

From then on everything went bad, my battery died, my power coord, is super sensitive so If i move it, It shuts down the comp

because my battery isnt working, and so on. Ton's of things to name right now.

How should I check my temps?

Also, Andrew, do you have AIM or MSN, this would be much easier to talk about with you that way.

Looking at this I can almost assure you that reformatting will resolve this problem. This problem can be caused by a multitude of factors but i think the easiest way to resolve your problem is to reformat. But before you do try these drivers:

http://support.alienware.com/Support_Pages...29&item=795

Very old I know, just want to ensure it is not a driver problem.

Select the 84.26 drivers.

Yes I do have msn, details in my profile.

Ntune or rivatuner monitors your temps.

I already used those, I had the same issue.

So.. I'll reformat.. I guess.

Also, what Drivers should I use once reformatted?

For my Video card.

The 177.92. I have no xperience with 177.98 and therefore cannot say anything abt it's performance.
