Satyre
Under both Vista and XP I have had problems with resuming from sleep/hibernate (or the vista-equivalents) when using anything other than the original Dell Vista drivers. The problem was significantly worse under XP. I tried editing the MapOSD3ToNV settings and suchlike. No joy. Then I finally got around to changing the one variable I had thus far ignored: NVStrap. Uninstalling the NVStrap driver has solved my resume from sleep and hibernate problems. I've tried reinstalling it and the system fails every time. Problem solved. - I think the root of the problem is the Graphics Adapter Identification in NVStrap. - With the NVStrap driver activated the graphics card has repeatedly identified as an 8400M GS instead of an 8600m GT and it occasionally and spontaneously reverts to the 8400 when using NVStrap. Just to be sure, I've run a gpuid check and it truly is an 8600. There seems to be an issue here. No more NVStrap, then no more sleep/hibernate problems and no more graphics card version problems with drivers.
