8600m gt problem

Hello all

I bought an 8600m gt with acer vbios on from ebay, put it in my acer 5920g and get black screen, the laptop boots up as i can hear the startup sound. When i inspected th card there appears that there is a gold pin missing like in the pic below. Is this why i get black screen, is the card broke? Its the only thing i can think off as it supposed to have acer vbios n i would have thought would have worked straight away for my laptop.

Anyone else had any problems like this?

Hello! The card isn't broken. At least not because of the "missing pin". I have a GT too with the same "missing pin". It works fine except for high temperatures:(. Which version of system bios do you have? Maybe you just need an upgrade because if the card were defective the notebook would say some beep at start - i think. Have you tried with an external monitor? Dan

Good to know that someone elses card looks like mine. I have version v1.3811, i upgraded to this version to see if my card would work but didnt :) . I tried monitor and that didnt work. If the laptop still boots up as normal just i get a black screen mean card isnt broke? The seller said it was a 512mb gddr3 version with acer vbios although he wasnt totally sure on it being gddr3.

As far as I know there is a 256MB DDR3, a 256MB DDR2 and a 512MB DDR2 version of 8600M GT. If you login to your notebook via Remote Desktop Protocol you can run Everest and find out what is your card's vbios. In Everest under Display then GPU menu you should see your card's name at Device Description and it's should be Acer in brackets. Dan
