BIOS Compatibility question

Hey everyone, I ran into a problem with my laptop and I need a new video card and I have a few questions.

I have an asus c90 with an Nvidia 8600 GT (I'm pretty sure thats what it is, I know its 8000 series, pretty sure its the 8600 & GT) and the card overheated while I was playing Counter Strike Source. I can't boot it up or see the loading screen or anything its just really choppy, I can kindof tell what its trying to do but once it gets passed the windows loading screen it just whites out.

I'm in the process of looking to replace the card, hopefully fast and cheap because I have a school project on my laptop that is due next Tuesday. I found another card which is an 8600M GS and I was wondering if that would work as a replacement and if the video BIOS matters? There are a bunch of those cards for sale on ebay but they say they come with the Acer BIOS instead of Asus. I was wondering if that will make a difference or if I can still use it and get my laptop back up and running? Heres an example of the one I was looking at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MXM-II-nVidia-GeFo...A1%7C240%3A1318

From what I can tell everything looks good except for the BIOS which I am unsure about. I read some things about flashing the BIOS and was wondering if I could just order the card and load the Asus BIOS on from somewhere? I looked around to see if I could find any BIOS files to download but I didn't come up with anything. If anyone can give me some advice and get me going in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hey there,

It is not ebay but it looks cheaper (the GS) and it doesn't need any modifications. (I don't have any experiences with these shops.)

Asus 8600M GS 256MB DDR2 http://www.directron.com/90c1ciz0hxbn0.html

Asus 8600M GT 256MB DDR3 http://www.excaliberpc.com/582445/asus-nvi...m-gt-256mb.html

I don't think so.. I didn't try the GDDR3 version yet in Acer but the DDR2 version starts with a warning "MXM Structure error...." and a countdown, the device can't work properly without Acer vbios content. As far as I know Acer didn't release the GDDR3 version of 8600M GT, so there is no Acer vbios for it. I think this card would do the same as the DDR2 version and doesn't worth it..

I don't think that seller sell new cards. You may see his history.

God bless you.
