Guest
Hi all, I discovered Teraphy's and Peter's websites looking for a tweak in installing a more recent driver on my new notebook and I am experiencing several problems/question: -why do the 53.03 drivers (INF patch applied) do not show WHQL certification as they are supposed to? The "old" drivers Samsung shipped with my laptop were WHQL. -should I put the GPU Frequency slider in the NVIDIA driver tool on 220MHz (which is the rate of my card) instead leaving it on the default value of 180MHz? There shouldn't be issues with battery here, as there is PowerMizer for increasing battery life. -any time I scroll up and down in IE (and Windows Explorer) a whistle noise comes from the speakers. When I uninstall the NVIDIA drivers it disappears, but comes back updating to a newer version. I hope someone here will know the answers to my questions  Thank you all in advance
Guest Ludic
There is no WHQL certification, because the driver wasn't tested by Microsoft. The old drivers that shipped with your laptop were. The GPU frequency can be set to whatever you want, as long as you can keep the chip cool enough, and it doesn't make your system unstable. As for the noise, I don't know what that is.
mobilenvidia
Ulysse, Ludic covered the first 2 problems. The 3rd one is likely due to the Soundcard sharing the same IRQ as the Video. Chances are IRQ 10. This is a normal thing with modern machines (IRQ sharing) but can lead to problems as you are experiencing. If you know how, change the Soundcard to IRQ 5 (only if it's not already). This can be done (awkwarly) with System Properties - Hardware. Don't touch if your not sure. Hope this helps, Pieter. Guest
Hi Ludic and Pieter, thanks for your answers. According to hw manager, video and sound are sharing IRQ 11. Unfortunately the option to change that is greyed out (cannot check manual) in the last tab of both devices. How can I do? By the way, which driver/INF do you recommand for best performance/battery results? Is the latest one the best? Thx again, ulysse
mobilenvidia
I have a feeling that this is the reason why. Download the latest drivers for the sound card, hopefully this might fix the IRQ issue. I also can't change my settings manually, but my Sound is on IRQ 5 (the default Soundblaster setting) Hopefully someone reading this can shed more light on this. As for drivers, there really is no best driver, it's just a matter trial and error for your machine. 44.68 is rock steady for most and has good performance, but is getting a little old now. 53.03 is a good place to start with 5x.xx drivers, or try my latest 53.04 and 53.06. Good luck, Pieter.
Guest
This is the answer from the driver manufacturer: You haven't really given me enough information. Is the noise weak or loud, does it vary with display size or content. IE only? Is it LCD or CRT? What machine? Have you complained to the manufacturer first? Is it a desktop or portable? Anyway, I'm guessing the noise is a low level, but obvious in a quiet environment. Such noises like you describe are generally caused by certain hardware wiring interactions. Usually some signal path is in close proximity or some power supply bypassing is such that some video signal is impinging the audio path. Video devices are known to generate much electrical energy in the audio range and change as the screen content changes. There are no known noise issues that have been fixed with driver upgrades. mobilenvidia
I would still get hold of the latest sound driver. I get a soft humming noise when my laptop goes to Hibernate. But the laptop should be quiet (except for Fans whirring away) Pieter.
Guest
Hi guys, I've finally solved the issue by myself. It was a really stupid thing....installing the driver by running setup instead of using hardware mananager everything goes fine....can't really explain, but here I am ;-) Thank you all for help!! :-D By the way, I am still trying to find the best driver for my Samsung X10 (GeForce4 440 GO G4M) .....if someone has found, please let me know, otherwise I'll do so regards, ulysse
mobilenvidia
There are no best drivers, it's a matter of trying which driver works best for you. I recommend 44.68 or 45.91 or 53.0x, they seem to be stable for most. Try either Teraphy's or mine it's up to you. Pieter.
